Galentine's Day Is Better Than Valentine's Day

February is the season of love, and everyone makes sure to mark their calendars for the 14 ^th for special dates with their significant others, but what about the gal pals in your life? "Parks and Recreation"'s main character, Leslie Knope, has a solution for that on Feb. 13: Galentine’s Day! Here’s what makes Galentine’s Day such a wonderful holiday for 21 ^st-century women.

1. The celebration of friends

These women support you every single day, and getting to celebrate that is so important to friendships.

2. Breakfast foods

Galentine's day is judgement-free, which allows the shoveling of a triple deck of chocolate-chip pancakes with extra whipped cream even more enjoyable.

3. Girl talk

Catching up on the latest news of all your girlfriends makes you realize why you love them so much in the first place.

4. Giving gifts

No holiday would be complete without a gift exchange, but instead of a box of chocolates, it'll be something your friends know you've wanted desperately.

5. No boys allowed

Save the boyfriend/husband dates for the 14th because the 13th is dedicated to girlfriends!

6. No dress code

Galentine's Day -- no need for make up or fancy dresses. Show up in your PJs for a Galentine date, and your friends will still love you for who you are. Even if that happens to be an unshowered, groufit-wearing lady.

7. The compliments

If there's one thing friends are great at, it's giving compliments. They bring your self-esteem through the roof. Galentine's Day invites you to use the best adjectives to describe your very best girl friends.

8. All-day extravaganza

Breakfast might be over, but the activities of Galentine's Day can continue as long as you want. Ladies, grab your purses. We're going shopping!

9. The love

The love you have for your girlfriends will only grow with every moment you spend with them. Soon, you'll be asking yourself how you didn't think of Galentine's Day sooner.

10. It's annual

It may not be nationally known right now, but that doesn't mean it won't be in coming years. Every year there's a day designed to celebrate the women who help you with all your challenges and achievements. Happy Galentine's Day, everyone!

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

When you try to be super involved on campus, it can kill your sleep schedule.

It's impossible to do homework at home, but staying on campus isn't an option sometimes.

There are surveys and events that you can't participate in because you're a commuter.

Group projects are the bane of your existence.

Traffic.

Your backpack rivals that of a survivalist trekking in the woods.

Driving all the way to campus to find a note on the door of your classroom saying class was cancelled.

Because have you ever had to endure grilling your foot on a George Foreman?
