By now, we've all heard about the new Star Wars land and attractions coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. If you haven't, then you can read more about the new arrival here. I'm still skeptical about the placement of the land at Disneyland because it interrupts the park's nostalgic ambiance, but we'll save that for another article. Here's a look at some of the accommodations they've had to make over in Anaheim.
However, Walt Disney World has more room and a better place in mind for the galaxy that soon won't be so far away. Last weekend, I was at Walt Disney World and got to see what they have so far for myself.
At WDW, Star Wars is taking over Hollywood Studios. I love Hollywood Studios as it is, but the changes being made aren't so bad. The park opened in 1989, right on the cusp between two really great decades. Because of that, the park has a lot of '90s stuff -- stunt shows, back-lot tours (not anymore, unfortunately) and dozens of movie-set-like fake facades.
Check this out! Are we in Orlando or San Francisco? Gotta love it.
As the park prepares to enter its new age, Star Wars is front and center. The new area is called "Star Wars Launch Bay," and it's awesome.
They have it all: cool concept art, original posters, stormtroopers, high-tech lightsabers, you name it. I think my favorite part was watching the stormtroopers parade through the area. They saw a kid with a BB-8 balloon, and one of them flicked the balloon as they walked by.
You can also meet Chewie and Kylo Ren here. I'll warn you, though. Kylo Ren and his impulsive lightsaber swinging may be funny on the movie screen, but he is totally terrifying in person. May the force be with you.
OK, I know I said the Stormtroopers were my favorite, but my favorite thing from the Launch Bay is definitely this cute little BB-8 cup.
Along with the cool merchandise and relics, some new attractions are supposed to be on their way to Hollywood Studios. They already updated Star Tours, and it was great. I can't wait to see what the new attractions will be like. If you aren't planning on visiting Hollywood Studios anytime soon, you can take a peek at everything Star Wars related that's currently there.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to seeing what they'll do with the new Star Wars additions at Walt Disney World. Oh, and I almost forgot, Toy Story Land is also coming to Hollywood Studios.
From a galaxy far away to infinity and beyond, the new Hollywood Studios is just beginning!
