2017: a clean slate for those who work for it. Resolutions are only effective if you put in the effort and desire quality outcomes.

As I have not worked out at the gym in months, I do know that working out is so satisfactory. I participated in a several month long gym class which tested me greatly. If you have any condition, as I have scoliosis, there are more than plenty of replacement workouts to complete. Exercising is tough yet rewarding in various aspects of your life. After a week of vigorous workouts, I feel like I can get anything done. Exercising involves not only physical strength but mental strength as well. Day one is challenging as your body struggles to continue since you are not used to completing much exercise other than walking. You need the mental ability to tell yourself "keep going, you will get used to this."

If you are like me and lose motivation to go to the gym quickly, if you are not in an on-going class or with a trainer, find a gym buddy. There are tons of fitness gurus on Instagram that share their easiest and toughest exercise routines. The tools are there for you.

This motivation that you gain while exercising needs to extend outside of the sweat session. Eat healthy, it is so vital. I am not an expert, but working out can go out the window if you continue to consume unhealthy food and drinks. Try making homemade acai bowls, grilled chicken and vegetables, and smoothies. Healthy food sounds boring to people who do not season their food. If you have the "good in the kitchen" gene and blessing, you'll be fine. Making yourself internally and externally healthy is the best thing you can do to start the year off with a bang.

In order to feel positive and truly love the place and body you are in, you need to start within yourself.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
