Gustavus Adolphus College

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college in the town of St. Peter, Minnesota. It has been around since it was founded in 1862 by Swedish Americans. Gustavus is not only a school with a beautiful campus, but it is known for its strength academically. College is a time for a collection of experiences both inside and outside the classroom and Gustavus definitely honors that. The thing that personally made me fall in love with Gustavus was that it has an incredible sense of community. Everyone around you is your friend, family, and fellow "Golden Gustie."

After speaking to multiple people around campus I composed a list of Just "Gustie" things:

1. "Traying."

Nothing is quite like a ride down "Old Main" hill on a tray from the "Caf" with your friends.

2. The Campus Cats.

Cooper & Nemo! It is always a day maker when you come across one of them. Everybody loves the campus cats!

3. Having to explain to people where Gustavus is.

If you are a Gustie I am guessing that you have already had this conversation 579834824 times. At least I have:

Random Person: "Where do you go to school?"

Gustie: "Gustavus Adolphus College!"

Person: "Where is that?"

Gustie: "It's in St. Peter, Minnesota."

Person: "Well, where is that?"

Gustie: "Uhh it's about ten minutes from Mankato."

You soon find out that the ONLY people who know where Gustavus is are those who attended GAC themselves.

4. Christmas In Christ Chapel.

Every year 300 students, faculty, and staff bring the program to life through the use of music, dance, spoken word, and the visual arts for over 5000 audience members. If you go to Gustavus chances are you are either in the program or are watching it.

5. Truly Experiencing "Death Hill."

Many have fallen...well ok almost everyone has fallen. To those who haven't I wish you good luck, I am sure your time is coming soon. Be careful Gusties!

6. "Grib" Shopping!

If you are a Gustie and haven't been "shopping" on Gribly yet I don't know what you are doing.

7.Being able to relate to this.

8. The Square Dance.

Are you even a Gustie if you didn't go to the square dance to meet your "soulmate?"

9. Chapel break.

Every day from 10:00-10:20 instead of sitting in a class you are either going to chapel, getting breakfast, coffee, sleeping, etc.

10. Spinning The Letter Sculpture.

Do you dare spin the sculpture in front of the "Lib" to find out your grade?

11. The Nobel Conference.

For two days instead of classes you have the opportunity to witness preeminent scientists, theologians, and ethicists to discuss deep questions at the intersection of science and society.

12. Going "Diving."

If you haven't danced it out in "The Dive" (The old swimming pool) with your friends on a Friday or Saturday night what have you been doing?

13. The "Arb."

You can agree that the Arb is probably the most beautiful place on campus and is the best place to go "mocking" or on a night walk with friends.

14. The Gus Bus.

15. The Food!

Frost-your-owns, Gyros, Mac & Cheese, Insomnia Cookies, Banana Bread, Caesar salad Monday, Midnight Express... do I even have to say anymore?

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
