The Gabbie Show Changing the Game

Most people should know who "The Gabbie Show" is by now. If you don't know who she is, you must live under a rock, or your parents forbid you from getting on the wonderful world wide web. She made her debut on Vine as most people with an iPhone have done and then switched onto YouTube as most people with a camera have done. She blew up as a Vine star and since then have blown up on YouTube and the app Musically. Now that you know all the background information let me just tell you how I feel about her.

I absolutely love her. She may not be PG-13 but she is such a funny and raw social media star that you can either relate to or just binge watch for hours. Some social media stars are very plain and basic and do what everyone else does because it's the new trend. It's entertaining for a minute but then along comes a prettier face or more attractive guy doing the same thing and it gets old. With Gabbie, it's raw and not staged.

I'm almost 19 years old so the internet is literally my life. 19 year olds today are on social media 90% of their day and we want entertaining and relatable things to spend our time on. We don't want 60 different people who are famous doing the same trend because it gets old and we eventually grow out of it. We want relatable things to connect with. The Gabbie Show does that perfectly and she's not staged or basic. She does these "Storytimes" which is her just ranting about something that has happened to her. For example her terrible relationships or her encounters on Tinder.

It's purely funny to just watch and listen to her experiences because some people have had those same experiences today. Social media is relatable and that's why she has done so well. About 60% of the words that come out of her mouth are vulgar words, it is still so funny to watch and entertaining. She makes her content entertaining and real with her own personal experiences. As teenagers, we love drama and people's bad experiences because our brains are wired that way. She puts herself out there 100% and that is what people love.

She recently went on tour with a few other social media icons and it wasn't a legit tour with singing and background dancers but it was an entertaining factor for their followers and supporters. She took the fact that she has so many followers that while on tour, on every stop she asked people to donate food and toys and she got a decent amount of donations. These donations were from teenagers too, not a bunch of adults. She takes her social media status for the better, she doesn't ask for shoutouts or money. She is just a raw and whole hearted person on social media that doesn't have a negative effect on people in this generation. Some people on social media have negative effects that transfer to their followers just because they have the power or "status".

Today's generation is based on social media because it's evolving everyday and it just keeps growing. It's growing more in the younger generations and parents wouldn't want their children watching YouTubers who do drugs and promote it or break into places just to get views because the internet has a great hold on kids these days. Who cares if there is cursing? There could be a lot worse things on the internet. It's nothing they don't here in public or at school.

My point is, The Gabbie Show is changing the game on social media to a more real and raw feel. She isn't basic and stays with the trend, yet she does what she wants and it works for her. So keep it going.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
