As A Future Teacher...

Everyday I think about what my career is going to be like.

Essentially, every future educator thinks of a lot of things. Whether it's their future classroom, students or teaching philosophy, we all have one thing in common: we're incredibly excited.

Here are some thoughts from a future teacher herself.

1. I'm getting paid to do something I've loved my whole life?! Score!

Helping people and enabling them to make the world a better place is my job now?! The excitement is way too real.

2. What kind of teacher outfits am I going to buy?

For future educators, this is pretty exciting. Clothes are a great form of self-expression, and wearing blazers with A-line skirts to work is something to look forward to. For all of us ladies going into education, we can only hope to look as good as #teacherbae.

3. How am I going to decorate my classroom?

Do I let my OCD side take over and make everything match, or do I let my students join in and help too?

4. What if my students don't like me?

We've all had that really crappy teacher that makes us dread going to class, and even school. What if we end up like them?

5. I am officially giving away my right to cuss on the internet.

Everyone has freedom of speech... unless you're a teacher. Our future career is held up to such a high standard that we can't even say "hell" without feeling the tiniest bit of guilt.

6. Grocery shopping is about to be really weird.

Remember when you used to see your teacher at Walmart when you were a kid and thought it was really weird? The tables have turned.

7. Having summers off is about to be stellar.

And even if they implement year-round school, hopefully, we'll still be able to have three months off. (Even though we all know we're going to be doing lesson plans and workshops during that time.)

8. I hope I'm as good as my favorite teacher was.

All of us have that teacher that changed everything. Mine was my sophomore English teacher, who I consider a mentor and my biggest role model. Every time I walk into a classroom, I think about what she would do.

And of course I had to throw in a Taylor Mali poem; no one explains what an amazing teacher does better.

9. I really hope that I can make a change.

If I can't change the entirety of the world, that's okay; as long as I make a difference in at least one of my student's lives, that's all that matters to me.

10. I can't wait to officially be a teacher.

From all the hard work of studying for Praxis, surviving my intern year and hugging my mentor teacher when I finally receive that diploma... I am so ready to start my career.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
