To My Future Roommates
Rachel Williams

Hey future roommates,

I say roommates because I won't have just one of you, I will have three. Which was difficult for me to comprehend last year because growing up, I only had one sister that I had to share a living space with. This past year, I started the school year off with four roommates who by the time spring semester came around, I had just one roommate left in a four person apartment. I became fairly close with her and we stayed up until almost 4 am most nights just talking about life and anything that crossed our mind. It was like living the dream. I didn't have to share a bathroom, although the apartment got kind of lonely with only two of us there, it was one of the best semesters of my life.

First of all, this is going to be the BEST year of my life living with you guys. This semester, I will be living in an apartment with three other girls or who I like to call my best friends. I can't wait for the semester to start because living with you guys is going to be so much fun. Yes, I know college is about being successful in your studies, but it's also about creating new traditions with the ones you live with. My favorite college experiences so far have been spending time with my you guys but now you are my future roommates and I have to deal with all of your guys' craziness 24/7. We've had so many unforgettable laughs at 2 AM, and I can't wait to have more within this next year. We've had so many late night homework sessions where we end up talking or dancing around the living room and getting no homework done. Prepare for more of those kinds of nights in your near future. I can't wait for all of the unforgettable 2 AM memories that I have coming my way. Just sitting with you guys in the living room, having funny conversations or playing cards against humanity, are some of the best college memories that I have. Should I mention our random road trips driving around town blasting music and singing our lungs out? Or going to Orlando to go to Disney Springs or Universal Studio's City Walk to just walk around and take pictures? By the way, there will be more of those laid back kind of nights happening in our apartment and more road trips as well.

Remember when we would talk about our futures and what we want to do after we graduate? Where we want to live, about our weddings and what we want our wedding dress to look like. These are the memories that I am going to miss the most when I graduate college. Get prepared for more of my dumb jokes that I tell and my random outbursts of dancing. I can't wait to be living with my best friends and going through yet another school year with these ladies by my side. You are beautiful people and I am so blessed to have had the privilege to meet you and have you walk next to me on this journey I call life. Cheers to you girls. This year is going to be so much fun.

I love you guys.

Your roomie,

Rach

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
