To My Future Little

I love you already, Little!

To My Future Little

Hi Little,

I know right now you are absolutely freaking out. You're wondering which house you'll be in and what chapter you'll call home for the next couple of years. I wish I could go through the process with you and tell you that everything will be ok, but that's your Rho Gams job (I bet she is amazing and you should talk to her). I hope you're not too worried about recruitment and I hope you are more and more excited as we get closer to bid day. I hope when you come to Chi Omega that you know it's home. I remember being in your shoes, and not understand why the house I thought I wanted dropped me, but Little I am so happy that they did. Sometimes, we know what we want, but not what we need.

I can't wait to see you running towards us on bid day! I won't even know who you are yet, but I am so excited to meet you. Embrace this time and make the most of it because it won't last forever. Take lots of pictures and make many memories because you're going to be sad when you're an old senior, like me, thinking about wishing you could experience it all again. If I could give you any advice it would be to go to everything! Sorority life is what you put into it, so put a lot in. You won't regret the time spent with sisters (I promise).

I am so excited to see all the friends that you make and the leader that you will become. I am so excited to watch you grow in this house because everyone does. I am so excited to become your Big and to take you in as my own (and spoil you of course). I can't wait to experience Homecoming, Greek Week, intramurals and philanthropies with you. I can't wait to make you get dessert with me really late at night and to Starbucks before every event. I am even more excited to watch you get initiated in the spring and become a sister forever (officially)!

As your Big I will always be here for you; whether you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to get Starbucks with, I'm your girl. I know that I graduate in May and that's not a long time to spend with you, but we will make the most of it. We will make so many memories and take so many photos and experience all that Chi Omega has to offer. I will challenge you to become a leader in this house and to love it the way I love it, and I will try my best to show you that love. I won't be perfect, but I will be the best Big that I could possible be. We are going to have so much fun together, Little. So, hurry up and get through recruitment so I can meet my fabulous Little!

Love you forever and ever,

Future Big

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
