What I Want My Future Job To Be

What my future has in store.

What I Want My Future Job To Be

The future is scary, right? Especially when you're 19 years old about to go to a big university. The future may be scary but it is also very exciting. In a couple weeks, I will be attending Illinois State University. This will be a completely different experience for me since I started out going to two different junior colleges. I am majoring in biology education, so I can be a biology teacher. All through high school, I was always thinking I would never be a teacher because I hated getting up early and I hated going in general. Funny how that changed after one year of college. Going into my freshman year I had absolutely zero idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I had a horrible experience at my first school, but that's where I decided I wanted to be a teacher. As most people know, there is nothing worse than having a boring teacher. I was lucky enough to have a couple awesome high school teachers who inspired me to want to become one. So thank you, Ms. Schoon and Mr. Sorrill! I feel like a lot of kids just go through the motions and don't care about school; they just want to get home. Sad part is, that was me. I want to be the teacher all the students and staff like. I want to be the teacher where kids are excited to come to my class. I want my students to have fun while learning in my class. My biggest goal is to get kids to college. In my opinion, if you want to go college you should be able to go to college. Every single kid in America should have the opportunity to go to college after they graduate. It is so sad that some kids don't get the chance to go to college. Every kid should be able to regardless of their financial situation.

Along with being a teacher, I want to be a varsity head baseball coach. I helped the sophomore baseball team in Canton this past season and I had a great time. I love coaching! Helping the kids get better and seeing them grow as people and players over the course of a season is so rewarding. I also coached a travel team this summer and that was a good experience for me. My biggest goal as a varsity baseball coach isn't winning. It is about getting the kids to college. I know that is a common theme in this article, but this is something very important to me. One thing I think high school coaches don't do enough of is help their players move on to play at the collegiate level or to just go to school. A lot of very talented kids go under-recruited and end up not going to play or not going to college at all. My goal is to send every single one of my players to college. Whether it's to go on and play or to go get an education, I want to have an impact on these kids moving on.

I hope this is what my future has ahead of me!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
