To whoever is reading this, I am not in your shoes as I am a nursing major but I have seen so many of you around me that I couldn't just sit here, so here I am. Some classes that nursing and pre-meds take are hard and can take a toll on you. How do they expect us to know all this information? This stuff is impossible. What have I gotten myself into? These are questions we all get and questions we face.
However, you can't let them win in any way. Don't drop your dream of becoming a doctor for an easier practice because the material is hard but because you found something that has made you happier. By giving up, the school has won and they have succeeded in weeding you out just to get better rankings and more money. Yes, med school is competitive, and the MCAT — well, that's a talk for another time.
I have seen RAs, my boyfriend, and many classmates study for the MCAT and let me say, I have seen the damage it can do on a person. Someone bright-eyed and optimistic can turn into someone bitter and hopeless. Why should something we want to do make us this way?
We should feel honored that we are passionate enough to go into a field where we can help people and make a difference in their lives.
I'm not saying it is going to be easy, quite the opposite. If it was going to be easy, everyone would be a doctor, but think about the end goals and the big picture. You can go to work knowing you will save lives and make a difference in someone's life. Don't worry about making anyone happy but yourself and you will go far.
Even though I will probably work for you one day in a hospital, know I struggled too to get where we all will be one day.
Best of luck.
