A Letter To My Future Daughter

I want her to know just how hard, yet sweet, life can be.

To my beautiful daughter,

I write to you this letter at 21 years old, halfway through my college career and ready to embark on all the adventures God has in store for me. I wanted to share with you a brief tale of my endevours and what I have learned from them all, in hopes that whatever you may be going through at this time, I can be your guiding light and show you that this life, here on earth, is as hard as it gets.

My hopes for you, my beautiful daughter, is that you become a fool, because that is the best thing any girl can be in this world. An absolute and utter fool.

I want you to know that it's always better to let your guard down and let love in, rather than live life with a perfect, unbroken heart. It's because of these broken hearts that help us become the person we are meant to be.

Trust me when I tell you it can be hard to let people in, and it's even harder to do so when you feel like your heart has been broken just too many times.

It's a hard concept, to open your heart, and it's a lesson that i'm still trying to learn myself. By opening your heart up and leaving yourself vulnerable you may experience a turmoil of a friendship, a bitter ending to a chapter in your life, or a boy who may come in and tell you how wonderful you are, only to tell you later that he can't give you the moon, and it's going to hurt like no other.

And with each of these trials, a new and different kind of hurt will appear.

But, I want you to know, that no matter how many times you feel like people have broken your heart, they can never shatter it completly because you are too strong for that my love.

And one day, you will realize who your true friends are; they are the ones who have always been by your side through thick and thin.

And one day you will meet the boy who will give you the moon and so much more.

I don't know where you are at in life at the moment, but I hope this helps or will help in the future.

Through all my journeys and tribulations thus far, my greatest advice to you is to open your heart, and mind, and follow the light in which God takes you.

Enjoy every minute of your life, because it is oh so short, yet so sweet.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
