From picnics, to concerts, to festivals and fireworks — there is fun for all!

Festivals

Irish American Festival — Happening June 26th from 12-7 p.m. at The Great Plaza at Penns Landing. Enjoy a day of Irish dancing and musical performances from The Hooligans and the Spirit of 16. Vendors will be selling traditional Irish goods down at the waterfront to kick off the summer festival season.

Philly Pride Parade and Festival — Happening June 12 starting at 13th and Locust St. and ending at the Great Plaza at Penns Landing. The festival takes place during International Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and includes live music, DJs and refreshments. A festive parade — the signature event — runs from the 'Gayborhood' to Penn’s Landing.

Night Market: Callowhill — Happening June 23 from 6-10 p.m. at 12th and Callowhill St. One of the best celebrations of street food and nightlife in the neighborhood. Coming in on its sixth summer, Callowhill will be open for different vendors and food trucks where you can pay as you go. Explore diverse bars, amazing artwork and live music!

Nightlife

Stratus Lounge — Happening June 19 with special guest Brody Jenner at 4th and Chestnut St. The outdoor nightlife space already hosts Vinyl Wednesdays, a rock-and-roll-tinged mid-week turn up, Saturday night dance parties and more.Stratus booms atop the 11-story Hotel Monaco Philadelphia, a boutique hotel from the Kimpton group known for its fresh décor and personal feel. The sky-high venue is also known for signature cocktails like the “Jalapen’Yo Face”, a jalapeno and pineapple infused drink.

Spruce Harbor Street Park — open through September 25 Mon-Thurs 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Fri-Sat 11 a.m.-1 a.m. A Philadelphia favorite hangout, the park is open with more hammocks, bars, colorful LED lights and food options. You don’t want to miss out on this summer fun!

Graffiti Bar — 124 S. 13th Street. The open-air bar on the patio behind Sampan. Make your way down a narrow, graffiti-painted alley, and you’ll be rewarded with summery drinks in a colorful setting. Sip on cocktails for warm weather like the Ming Mule, a minty ginger combo served in a mason jar, a Dirty Arnold Palmer, or the fishbowl cocktails served with multiple straws for sharing. What is there to eat? Try the famous Bao, fried rice, dumplings and anything else you desire from the Sampan menu.

These are just a few things going on in the weeks of June. Looking to try something new or different? Go check out some of these events in and around the amazing city of Philadelphia!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
