There are tons of situations where you're meeting new people, whether it's in a class or college or in the workplace. Sometimes the same old icebreaker questions can get old, so here is a list of some fun ones to get you started.
1. Favorite color, animal, and dream destination?
This one is particularly fun because there is supposed to be a sort of synopsis by the end of the questions. Each question is supposed to give you a deeper insight into the person than you realize. You are supposed to ask them their favorite color, favorite animal, and dream destination, but you also are supposed to ask them why their answer is what it is and have them describe in detail why. For example, my favorite color is blue because I love the color Carolina blue since that's the color of the sky where I grew up, and I think it's really calming and beautiful. My answer to that question is supposed to give you insight into my childhood, and it does! The answer to their favorite animal is supposed to give you insight regarding what qualities they look for in a spouse, and the answer to their dream destination is supposed to give you insight to the way that they view God.
2. If you had to, would you fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse sized duck?
Yeah, it's weird, but it usually starts a rather interesting argument.
3. If you had to lose one finger from either hand, which one would you choose, on which hand, and why?
I wouldn't go for the thumbs, but maybe the pinky finger on my left hand would be a solid choice.
4. Are there more gallons of water on Earth or blades of grass? Are there more grains of sand on Earth or gallons of water?
I'd go with water on Earth for the first one, but probably grains of sand for the second one.
5. If you could have dinner with any two famous people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
6. What do you recommend?
I recommend good friends and stepping out of your comfort zone. I also recommend adventures.
7. Who are the three people that you would let sing you to sleep?
I'm going with Ne-Yo, John Mayer, and either Miguel or Trey Songz.
8. What is one band or artist you would love to see perform live, dead or alive?
9. If you were a dog, what would your bark sound like?
There has to be a demonstration. It's a bit awkward, but once you do it everyone sort of opens up a little bit since you're all laughing at how ridiculous you sound.
10. If you had to pick a theme song or walk-out song, what would your song be?
11. Who are three people that would be qualified to write the story of your life?
12. Who would play you in a movie about your life?
13. Who would you choose to narrate your life?
14. Is a hot dog a sandwich?
15. If you had $3.00 to spend at any gas station, what would you buy other than gas?
16. What's your favorite feature about yourself?
17. What would you consider yourself an expert in?
18. Play "Make It or Break It"
Basically, you ask a question that includes a weird quirk that someone might have, then ask if you would try to make the relationship work still or if you would break it off. For example, if someone is a cat person instead of a dog person, do you make it or break it? Or, you could simply ask if a certain quality, like if they consistently interrupt others, would be something they could try to make work or if they would break it off.
19. If you could have any super power what would it be?
There's a catch though. It can't be anything that can be used to help or hurt other people. Basically, it's pretty useless, such as being able to glow in the dark or have fountain drinks come as you please from your fingertips.
20. What is your favorite form of potato?
There's potato wedges, mashed potatoes, french fries, hash browns, twice baked potatoes, and much more. It's hard to choose a favorite, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Use the icebreakers you enjoy, forget the ones you don't. These questions are much more interesting than the basic ones like asking someone's favorite movie. It helps you to get to know someone better a little faster, plus it lightens the mood a little bit. It makes icebreakers more fun as opposed to something sort of lame. Find a friend and try them out.
