A New Year's Workout Playlist To Start Off Your Resolutions Right

As 2019 begins, what better way to kick off one of your new year's resolutions than working out to a bumpin' playlist. Sure, you can compile your own songs on Spotify, hit shuffle on your phone, or even just Google other workout playlists, but this one takes the cake. Equipped with slower-paced warm-up tunes, faster songs to run to, and calmer ones for a cool down, this playlist will help motivate you to actually work out. Whether you listen to all of the songs at once (making your workout about an hour long) or mix it up and only play a couple, either route will surely make exercising a bit less of a chore.

"Be The One" - Dua Lipa

For it being the starting song, "Be The One" is upbeat and lively, great for a light jog or fun warm up with slower breaks in between.

"BOOGIE" - BROCKHAMPTON

"BOOGIE" has absolutely no chill. There's no time for breaks during this portion of your workout. You're up and working hard — or else you aren't doing the song justice.

"More" - 5 Seconds of Summer

The underlying beat of this song makes me feel like I can lift a thousand pounds. Try it out bench pressing or lifting weights… if you're feeling up to it!

"Red Light Green Light" - Dune Rats

The energy in this song is insane and makes working out feel almost like a treat (at least for this minute and 54 seconds).

"Gold Digger" - Kanye West and Jamie Foxx

Put on your game face and get into those squats, girl.

"Let's Dance To Joy Division" - The Wombats

This song always makes me want to get up and dance… so why don't we?

"Mr. Brightside" - The Killers

Scream-sing this through the jumping jacks!

"Tongue Tied" - Grouplove

"Tongue Tied" is my go-to jogging song. I absolutely hate running of any sorts, but hearing this while jogging makes it a little less painful. No one can listen to "Tongue Tied" without feeling on top of the world.

"Pet Cheetah" - Twenty One Pilots

The intensity in "Pet Cheetah," combined with its slowed down verses, makes for a perfect workout jam. Play this during a more difficult exercise, where you need a few breathers in between.

"Lose Yourself" - Eminem

What workout playlist doesn't have "Lose Yourself" on it?

"I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" - Arctic Monkeys

This is a super fun, steady jam that enables you to do your reps to the beat of the song.

"Animal" - Neon Trees

"Animal" is yet another great song to run to or just dance around the room to as well. It truly gives you the energy to take on any exercise.

"Roxanne" - The Police

"Roxanne," although it picks up during the chorus, is a decently calmer song to play while beginning to slow down your workout.

"Best Friend" - Rex Orange County

This song can be played really anywhere throughout the workout — as a warm up, cool down, or just while doing sit-ups. Its cool and collective vibes will allow you to truly just focus on the task at hand while giving you a pleasant background jam.

"10,000 Emerald Pools" - BORNS

As the last song on the list, "10,000 Emerald Pools" is a relaxing tune, perfect for the finishing stretches in your workout cool down. Let yourself reap all of the benefits of exercise and reflect on all of the progress you made today.

Going to the gym and working out on a daily basis (with breaks once in awhile) has been a great way for me to feel good about myself. It is 100% more than just looking good. Especially after starting college and having the stress and anxiety of tests, assignments, and just figuring out my future, the gym at my school has definitely been a place of relief for me and I have numerous reasons of why everyone should push themselves to get to the gym when they can.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
