Tallahassee truly is a wonderful place if you just take the time to explore it. There are plenty of things to see and do, so take advantage of the city before you're not in it every day. Tallahassee is more than just a college town, it is the capital of Florida and the hometown of many people!
1. Earn a challenge shirt from Madison Social.
It's almost like a right of passage when you turn 21 in Tallahassee. It is located in College Town, next to many other popular restaurants!
2. Go on a hike.
There are at least a dozen different places you can go on a hike around Tallahassee. Get outside of the college section of the city and go explore! Take your dog or your best friend and enjoy nature.
3. Visit the Capitol Building.
Every time you drive down Apalachee Road, you see it, the Capitol Building. Sadly, most people never stop to take a look. There is a lot of history waiting to be seen in Tallahassee, you just have to put in the effort to see it! Also, it's free!
4. Go to the Tallahassee Museum.
If you love animals, this is the place to be. You can even experience living history on the weekends, or take part in their tree top zip line experience.
5. Go kayaking at the Rez.
The Rez is fun for people of all ages! If you're not an FSU student, you will have to pay to enter and for rentals but it won't break the bank. They are reasonably priced. They have all sorts of activities from kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, volleyball, a challenge course, and much more!
6. Explore campus.
Most students spend their time in only a handful of buildings in one section on campus. If you can't give directions to every building by the time you graduate, you aren't taking advantage of your full campus. FSU is beautiful, and large, and you should appreciate every part of it!
7. Attend sporting events.
Even if you are not a sporty person, this is a big part of college, especially at FSU. Pick a few different sports and experience them all! Most of the time they're even free. Sometimes, for big games, they give away free food or shirts! Support the school and support our student-athletes!
8. Attend an FSU play.
FSU is known for the shows that they put on. Grab a friend and check it out before you leave! They offer many throughout the semester. In order to make it more available, they offer multiple dates for you to come watch.
9. Eat local food.
Local food normally tastes 100% better than chain restaurants. The many local eateries are what make Tallahassee feel like home. There's something local on every corner, check out as many as you can in the time you have left. Skip the chain restaurant and head over to Masa or Voodoo Dog!
10. Go to Wakulla Springs.
Wakulla Springs is gorgeous, trust me. However, if you want to go swimming, be warned, the water stays the same temperature year round! There are plenty of other things to do besides swimming, such as hiking, or getting a banana split from their soda shoppe.
11. Take a stroll in Cascades Park.
Cascades Park is so close to campus, yet most students never take time to appreciate it. It is huge, has an amphitheater, plays colored light shows, and has a little playground! Walk along the paths and enjoy the outdoors, play football, find a new study spot, or go have lunch at the Edison. There is always something to do.
12. Go star-gazing.
Tallahassee is full of lights, but luckily you only have to drive about 10 minutes outside of the city to find somewhere you can truly see the stars. Tallahassee may be a big city but the stars are always out there.
13. Go in the fountain.
Another right of passage for your 21st birthday at FSU. Who says you can't take a dip in when it's not your birthday? However, usually Westcott Fountain is reserved for 21st birthdays and the fountain on Landis is for all other birthdays!
