What ever happened to predictability? The milk man, the paper boy, evening TV? 20 years ago, America said goodbye to it as our favorite family went off the air. Since then, we’ve only been able to catch up with them in the form of syndicated re-runs after school, or late at night on Nickelodeon. The Tanners taught us all the life lessons we needed to know in the eight seasons of Full House. DJ gave us #hairgoals, Danny gave us dad jokes, and Uncle Jesse gave our lives meaning.
Have mercy.
The Tanners have held a special place in our collective hearts and soon will hold a special place in our queues, because the Netflix gods have blessed us with a 13-episode reboot coming February 26.
In case you’ve been off of the internet for two weeks and missed it, the first trailer for Fuller House premiered December 17, and I definitely didn’t cry a little watching it. Set to Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me,” the trailer starts much like the intro to Full House, with shots of San Francisco and the iconic Tanner Household.
We see the revamped kitchen:
And a slightly different living room with a little Comet Jr. as the family’s voices ring from just outside the door:
The excitement for Fuller House builds as the countdown to February continues. We know a few things about the plot already: recently widowed DJ moves back into her old family house to raise her three sons with the help of her new housemates: best friend Kimmy and sister Stephanie.
John Stamos (Uncle Jesse), Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey), and Lori Loughlin (Aunt Becky) are all signed on to guest star. With a cast this full, here are some episodes we could expect from the new Netflix series.
Ep. 2 – DJ gets called into work on a Saturday, leaving Kimmy in charge of her kids. Kimmy loses all three boys at the park and comes back with three Golden Retrievers instead. After a city-wide search, the episode ends with a knock on the door; it’s Grandpa Danny Tanner with DJ's boys.
Ep. 4 – With three new dogs and three sons, DJ’s house becomes a mess, so Danny steps in showing her his tricks to keeping the place clean. Sub-plot: Stephanie takes over as the manager at the Smash Club after her “Love Shack” performance dominates a winner-takes-all contest held by the current owner.
Ep. 5 – Jesse can't come to the birthday party of DJ’s middle son, so he sends the Beach Boys as a singing telegram.
Ep. 7 – Kimmy sets DJ up on a blind date to help her get back in the game, but it turns out to be with her old flame, Viper. The date goes horribly wrong until Steve spots the couple from across the bar and shows up to save the day.
Ep. 9 – Uncle Joey is set to perform a sold-out stand-up gig at the Smash Club. Stephanie has to set up for the night but is left in charge of her nephews. After a lofty amount of hijinks with the boys ensue while she tries to prepare for the crowd, Stephanie calls in Aunt Becky as babysitting-backup.
Ep. 12 – Jesse and the Rippers are preparing for a huge reunion show, but the keyboard player and bass player hurt their hands playing with some Mr. Woodchuck puppets. So, Nicky and Alex jump in and save the show, leading them to continue their fathers' legacy and start a new band.
Ep. 13 – The venue Deej had booked for her wedding to Steve falls through on the day of their nuptials. They find out cousin Stavros is marrying a Becky look-alike at the venue during the time they planned to have their wedding. Meanwhile, Silvio shows up, claiming he never forgot his first wife and long-lost-love that he walked around the table with all those years ago. In the end, Silvio loves DJ so much that he helps fix the whole venue debacle, because he just wants her to be happy.
Whatever mishaps happen, whatever lessons are learned, whatever terribly cheesy jokes are made, I’m happy our favorite family is back home.
