Whatever happened to predictability?

Ever since February 26th, everyone hopped onto Netflix to get the first glimpse of the new series, Fuller House. This original series contains 13 episodes, and it was deemed successful enough to be renewed for a second season! However, the show seems to be receiving loads of negative reviews (even from Full House extreme fans!)

I decided to let the hate from Fuller House settle down before writing my review because it seems I hold an unpopular opinion. I believe Fuller House was well made for the production crew and cast it had to work with. It was humorous with all the inside jokes from the old sitcom and shade thrown at non-returning cast members (cough cough the Olsen twins). It was well made, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Did I think it was better than the original? Of course not. Full House was the epitome of 90’s family friendly sitcom. It faced hardships and solved the problem with a hug and five minutes of the episode to spare for laughter and more hugging. That’s what people in the 90's wanted from their television: some good ol’ fashioned problem solving.

Personally, Fuller House was so great because it brought me back to that time in my childhood when I was obsessed with it. I didn’t necessarily like the show because of its performers and storylines, but rather because of the nostalgic feelings it brought to me. It reminded me of my youth when I would run home from the bus stop, grab a Fruit Roll-Up and sit in front of the TV to see what shenanigans the Tanners got themselves into that day. It was about the memories the show held.

Now, I understand people who don’t like Fuller House weren’t even fans of the original Full House. That’s why I’m confused with all the negative responses. If you didn’t enjoy the original, why would you bother watching 13 episodes of a show you knew would be extremely similar? The trailer showed that there’d be a strict parent, a cool relative, and a goofy best friend that all join forces and live together to raise some kids. It’s an exact replica of the original show with some old jokes but updated technology and storylines. I don’t know what these hate watchers were expecting, but the trailer made it clear it was the same show.

If you haven’t watched Fuller House yet, I do recommend it if you were a fan of the original show. If you don’t like the show, you’ll at least get that feeling of childhood and a possible craving for fruit snacks. It’ll definitely be worth the watch!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
