Unless you live under a rock, you know that the spin-off of America's favorite television show, Full House was made into the hit Netflix sensation, Fuller House. This sequel means more to people than just having another fun show to watch; it brings back memories of a simpler time, it's like seeing a long lost friend or family member after over 20 years apart, it's nostalgia.
When Full House first hit the television screen in September of 1987, the producers had no clue (nor did the beloved cast) that their show about a family would turn into such a sensation. The thing about Full House, even today, is when you watch it you feel as though you are a part of the Tanner/Katsopolis/Gladstone clan (as corny as that may seem, you know it's true). The charisma between the characters made it feel as though they were an actual family just going through life. It all seemed so real, so light-hearted, it made you wanna jump in the screen and sit on that blue and white checkered couch so many lectures were given on.
With the return of Fuller House, people are going insane with excitement to catch up on the family that stole our hearts almost 30 years ago. It's hard to believe that DJ isn't still the college bound older sister stressing about boys (even though we all know she always loved Steve despite how awesome Nelson and Viper were), or that Stephanie isn't that spunky teenager that made us laugh hysterically with her witty comebacks, and Michelle is no longer that adorable little girl who branded the catch phrase "you got it dude." It's so bizarre to watch people we knew for so long as a certain age and certain character all grown up living a different life. There's so much to catch up on, so much we missed, so much to see from here on out.
Fuller House has only been out on Netflix for a few weeks, but it took no time at all to capture the hearts of the lifelong Full House fans and reel in some new ones. As strange as it is to see the family all grown up with new additions (DJ's kids), it's refreshing to see that they all turned out the way we hoped. They're happy, successful, and still one big awesome family. Although it's a bummer DJ and Steve didn't end up getting married like we all hoped, there's definitely still room for that to occur in the sequel. As wonderful as it would be to see Mary-Kate and Ashley reprise their role of America's sweetheart, Michelle, it's understandable that they aren't comfortable being in front of the camera since so much time has passed since they have. Hopefully they make an appearance in at least one episode to satisfy all the Michelle fans out there.
There truly isn't a show like Full House. Almost 30 years after it's first air-date and the reruns still play on Nick at Nite every night. Children today know and love it, children when it first came out who are now adults know and love it, and people who are just tuning in to Fuller House know and love it. It's hard to pin point one particular detail that makes the show such a hit. Maybe it's the cast, maybe it's the dynamic, maybe it's all of that and how we all wish we were a part of the family. Whatever it may be, Fuller House is destined to be as big of a hit as it's originator. With a second season in the works, I think it's safe to say that Fuller House is already on it's way to something huge. So for anyone wondering if the new spin-off is worth watching; *in the voice of Michelle Tanner* DUH.
