Mexico has been struck with 2 earthquakes in the past week, one in Mexico City and the other in the Oaxaca region. Both causing destruction and leaving tragedy in their wake. The death toll now reaching about 319. Buildings collapsed in a matters of seconds it was terrifying and surreal, it looked like something straight out of a movie. Much of the old architecture like churches were left in rambles and are ruined.

With all the sadness and heartache in Mexico, there has been a ray of hope. People from not only all over the country but from other countries in the world have come to offer Mexico a helping hand.

It was the pictures of volunteer civilians that first moved me, and then to see too the rest of world responded was honestly beautiful. This is the Mexico I love so much. People forming human chains to carry victims, volunteering regardless if you were personally affected, serving food for free, and putting others before you.

It fills my heart with so much joy to see all the love and support Mexico is receiving. This is what I love about my beautiful country, we come together in our time of need. It doesn't matter if you're equipped, or strong enough; any help is cherished. In a time where so much tragedy has hit various parts of world, seeing this gives me hope for humanity. As cliché as it sounds , I have never been more proud seeing all these countries coming together. It is truly inspiring and should be seen as an example of what can happen when we put our differences aside and unite.

This is what we need to be seeing more of on the news and media. Love instead of hate. Coming together for the common good . It is sad that the only time we see things like this is when tragedy strikes. But hopefully this serves as a message to the world that when things get hard the solution is to come together.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
