Maybe you missed the deadline to register for summer classes. Maybe you decided to go home to get a job. Regardless of how you ended up there, you're home for the summer.
Coming home from college for the summer is a culture shock like none other.
For starters, there's the realization that you won't see your friends every day.
Your bed at home is nowhere near as comfortable as the one you sleep on at school.![]()
For some bizarre reason, you can't remember how to do anything on your own.
Seriously Mom, how does this new microwave work?
Your personal TV time morphs into shared family TV time.![]()
Can I not watch Bravo reruns in peace? Do you really need to watch Ice Road Truckers in the living room?
And now that you're home, you're forced to interact with your younger siblings on the daily.

Your parents leave for work and you suddenly realize you have no one to talk to.

You try to find something--anything--to keep you busy.
But GOD you're bored. You're so, so BORED.
You develop a severe case of FOMO from scrolling through your Instagram feed.
Did I miss the let's all study abroad memo?
Then there's good news: some of your friends are home too and want to go out!
...But you learn the hard way that you still have a curfew when you wake your parents up at 3 AM.
(if you were wondering, yes, it is still possible to be grounded even after you've left for college)
Learning to adjust to being home is a struggle, for both you and your loved ones.

…But by the end of the summer, you'll be glad that you spent a few months with the people who matter the most: your family.
