From the perspective of a Freshman.

Homecoming week, no matter your school or education level, is an absolute riot wherever you are. From teaming up with classmates and fellow peers to rack up points to win Homecoming Week to dressing up and participating in all of the events around campus, Homecoming Week is truly one of the best times of the school year, especially in college.

For this year’s Homecoming at Florida State University, they had many different events and many different possibilities for you to get involved in Homecoming. First off was Karaoke for A Cause kicking off on Sunday night. This event in and of itself was amazing as many different groups and organizations gathered in the center of campus and set up tables to discuss their various philanthropies as well as participate and sing karaoke for a fun night of entertainment. The following day, was of course Skit Night, which I gladly participated in for team points and for pure enjoyment value. For Skit Night, all organizations on campus had to put together a five-minute sketch portraying the various traditions of Florida State while also incorporating the “Living Legacy” theme of Homecoming. Not only did this make the sketches absolutely hilarious, but also educational in regards to the traditions that have occurred on the Florida State campus for many years.

The Seminole Festival, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, was another chance to get involved in Homecoming Week. The Seminole Festival took place much like Karaoke for A Cause in the center of campus, and it involved various fun activities in honor of Homecoming Week including games, food, and live entertainment, which seemingly gave it a very carnival-esque feel. During this time also, the banners created by each team of various fraternities, sororities, and other on campus organizations were being judged on creativity and correspondence to the Homecoming Week theme. Not only was this another fun way to show off the Homecoming spirit but it also showcased the creativity on campus that each organization possesses.

The best part of Homecoming Week by far though had to be the performance by Chance the Rapper in the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on Wednesday night. In my opinion, Chance the Rapper put on one of the best performances I have ever seen, and he even made sure to get the crowd up and moving throughout his entire set by hyping up the audience throughout every single one of his songs. He even incorporated new elements and little skits in between each song in order to give his performance more of a personal touch than any of his previous shows on his Magnificent Coloring World Tour. Not to mention, he performed his new song “No Problem” that features both 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne that was sure to get his audience excited and engaged in his act.

On Thursday night of Homecoming Week, there was another wonderful display of talent in the annual Spear-It Night showcase, where once again members of all organizations on campus, much like every event prior, performed their very own talents in front of the whole school and their peers. From singing and making up songs about school spirit to dancing around and hitting the quan, Spear-It Night was overall a wonderful event that dazzled with the abundant amounts of pure talent on campus. Speaking of pure talent, on Friday afternoon the annual Homecoming Parade took place where floats made by each organization and team participating in Homecoming Week was shown off to the whole school. This was soon followed by more pure talent later that day in the form of three comedians, Nicole Byer, Judah Friedlander, and Whitney Cummings, who all performed for Pow Wow that night in the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

Ultimately to close out the weekend on Saturday afternoon we had one of the most awaited games: The annual Homecoming Game, which like many years in the past was against the one and only Wake Forest. This of course, ended once again with the Seminoles taking the lead and winning the Homecoming Game 17-6 in the final quarter! So to say Homecoming Week was definitely a success would certainly be an understatement...I just can't wait to see what next year will bring!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
