A Fruit Loop In A World Full Of Cheerios!

Why blend in when you were born to stand out?

A Fruit Loop In A World Full Of Cheerios!

"A fruit loop in a world full of cheerios." Some people will look at the statement 100 different ways. I personally read this statement as, a person is so different while the people around them are so original. It seems that in todays society everyone wants to be just alike. Everyone is so afraid to go against the "norm" the they would rather sit back and blend in.

I am a fruit loop in a world full of cheerios. I was crafted to stand out, to be me and no one else. My grandmother always told me growing up that I always had to be different from others. She was right! I by any means do not like to blend in; I never have and never will. If not being the same as everyone else is such a bad thing than I guess I'm wrong for being me.

Our generation is slowing becoming known for just being average! When I say average I mean that we put in no more effort than to just make do. We don't go above and beyond to be the very best we can be. We do just enough to get the job done and be able to walk away from it. This has become our "norm" as we like to call it. I however want to be the very best! I want to see my name with doctor in front of it. I want to make a change! Our generation wants to be the best, make changes, and be the difference in our society but we don't want to put the work in.

"Why blend in when you were born to stand out?"(-Dr. Seuss) I strive to be different. I don't want to live my life just going with the flow of the world! I want to be the fruit loop in the world full of cheerios. I am my own person, there is no one else like me! I love that! I love the fact that I will never meet someone that thinks exactly like I do or looks exactly like I do. I mean truly think about it how boring and unproductive would our world be if we were all made the same? It would be like a rainbow made out of grey, no color or life in it.

So, I challenge you to be a fruit loop in a world full of cheerios. Don't be afraid to be different, you are your own person. If you want to make a change and be different; DO NOT be afraid to do so! I will not tip toe around in the world because its not socially acceptable to be different. I want to be different and if that bothers you while, I'm sorry for not being sorry for who I am.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
