Recruitment is one of the best parts about being in a sorority. You may not realize it when you’re putting in hours of practice, but when bid day comes around you won’t believe how fast it went by.

This is more than a time to recruit potential new members into your sorority. It’s a time to remember who you are, bond with sisters, and remember why you’re a member.

On the night of your practices, some friends wonder why you didn’t answer their text message right away.

“I was at recruitment practice, sorry!”
“Oh wow, all night? How’d it go?”
“Honestly, it was awesome. I’m getting excited about recruitment.”

The tedious hours may not be understood by others, but you become so much closer to your sisters as you practice for each round. Most of the time you’ll learn something new about a sister and it’ll explain what your sorority means to them.

When it comes down to the recruitment days when you’re waiting anxiously at the door, you're not just putting on that huge grin to show them who you are, it's a smile that is continued from a laugh that you just had with your sisters.

When you start singing your traditional songs welcoming in the potential new members, you're looking around at all of your sisters who are coordinated with your outfits, singing, clapping, and dancing. You're not worried about what you'll talk about with the potential new member, you haven't even thought about that yet. For a minute you take a look at your sisters and appreciate every single one. There is a reason all of them are with you. All these girls hold the same values and we worked so hard to get to where we are today.

These new members who you cannot wait to see on bid day are the future of your chapter. How inspiring is it to know that you helped hand select those who continues to create your sorority legacy?

Cherish your time with your sisters, in a few years you'll be looking at your Facebook watching the girls you once recruited post videos and pictures of their recruitment days and you'll wish you could be back singing the same songs (you know by heart) with them.

The memories of recruitment “on the other side” are ones you’ll hold closest to your heart when remembering your college experience.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
