From Suitemates to Sweet Friends

We were all just strangers.

From Suitemates to Sweet Friends

When I first realized that I'd be living with four other girls plus my roommate for my freshman year of college, I wasn't too sure on how it would work out.

What if we all had clashing personalities?

What if we didn't get along?

However, those questions are the least of my worries now.

From consoling each other because our families were gone to setting up the kitchen together on the first day - we all had grown close over the span of a few hours. We all had such fun and uplifting personalities, that there had never been a dull moment in our four bedroom, three bathroom apartment-style dorm.

Each one of them contributes to making our dorm feel like home. Everyone has different characteristics that make the place so lively and welcoming. From having mini weekday dance parties when we're all stressed to movie nights, to cool off after a busy week - we always have something going on. Even when we're all sitting in the living room and doing homework, we still manage to make it fun and get our work done. Many people are surprised that we all make attempts to hang out outside of the dorm and are shocked at how well we all get along. What makes this whole thing even better is that we're the loudest dorm on our floor and people always stop by to see what we're doing and make sure we're okay- and I wouldn't have it any other way.

One moment that I'll never forget was when my friends and I were outside in our floor lobby working on homework that was extremely difficult and I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I walked into the dorm to grab some water and everyone asked if I was okay. I, of course, said yes and returned back to the lobby. A few minutes later, three of them came out with candy in their hand. They all came around me and gave me a big hug and encouraged me to keep going. My friends mentioned many times how lucky I was to have roommates like that and how badly she wanted to live in our suite- and I couldn't agree more. It's times like that, where I realize that I was very lucky.

These girls are some of the most selfless, kindhearted and caring people I have ever met. They'll always go out of their way to make sure each of us are doing okay and ask how our day was. I don't think any of us can explain how all of us got so close over such a short amount of time, because none of us can even believe it. We all were just strangers two months ago.

However, one thing that I am able to say is that I am extremely blessed and grateful for each and every one of you.

Thank you for being such a bright light in my life.

Here's to the rest of freshman year, can't wait to see what other shenanigans we get ourselves into.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
