For my entire life, I lived in a small town in Oklahoma called Enid. I love my hometown. It is where I grew up ever since I was born. My parents taught me manners and they are my examples of my work ethic and humbleness. My brother and I would go to the park and play. Time did not matter much in Enid. What I love about Enid is the wide open spaces of land and the town had a laidback atmosphere. I felt so relaxed and peaceful back then. Things have changed since then...
Ever since I have moved to Edmond, I felt a little out of place. The atmosphere of the big city was not what I expected. I have daydreamed the day that I would go to a big city and discover the greatness of a big city like Edmond. First thing I have learned was that traffic is crazy! I heard about rush hour but I was not expecting to be at the stoplight for about twenty minutes! In Enid, going from one place to another was about a 10-15 minute drive with no problems.
So, the next thing I learned was the people. Edmond is a college city. In my first year at UCO, I was excited to meet new people. I met several students who were not from Edmond but from other states and other countries. Once, I attended an International Convention. I learned about cultures from different parts of the world. Another thing I learned about the city is food! I love food and I was amazed that there were different types of restaurants in the city.
I have discovered my new favorite place here in Edmond, and it's a small Asian diner called Wahaha. I love their Mocha boba milk tea, and their egg drop soup is delicious.
The next thing I learned about the city life is fashion. I am awed by the unique style of what people are wearing. My style used to be comfort fashion. I used to wear sweatpants and t-shirts with no makeup. Now, I put a little more into my clothes. For example, I wear trendy blue jeans with a white t-shirt paired with cardigan and dark brown boots. I wear makeup from time to time.
As the years went by, I began to learn more about myself and discover that living in the city is not so bad. I have adapted and grown as an adult. So to my small town folks who are going to move into a big city, don't be afraid to explore. Discover what you like to do, but do not forget where you came from and always be humble.
