Back at it again guys, here's the line up!
"Ghostbusters" (Currently Out)
Based off the original, this new version features a strong cast of female comedians that are guaranteed to leave us in stitches. The new female cast features SNL great Kristin Wiig, the amazing Melissa McCarthy and current SNL members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Along with list of funny comedians we also have some pretty big names like Chris Hemsworth, Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray.
There was some slight controversy of the remake featuring all women Ghostbusters but upon closer to the release date it seems to have died down. With so many powerhouse comedians, I don’t think any of us are going to leave disappointed. While I do think a few funnier past SNL members would have perhaps been a better choice, I like the addition of Kate and Leslie given they are the top women of SNL currently.
"Star Trek Beyond" (Currently Out)
Get ready for round three with our favorite Enterprise crew, the third installment of the revitalized Star Trek is hitting theaters! Captain Kirk and Spock are back at it again with the whole crew, this time dealing with some trouble on the five-year mission mentioned in the previous film. Other than some members including Spock and Kirk being stranded on a hostile planet and the threat of imminent alien attack, not much is known about the plot.
Paramount has been doing their hardest to keep this film shrouded in secrecy, with only the few minor photos leaked and the first trailer shown. This time with a new director Justin Lin, who directed "Fast and Furious," the film is bound to have a slightly different style. Although from the look of the trailer is doesn’t seem to veer off too much, so fingers crossed. Both Chris Pine and Zachery Quinto will be back too so that’s always a bonus as the two work great together. While it would be beneficial to see the first two, with such little plot info, I hesitantly think anyone will be okay seeing this as their first Star Trek film. As a die hard Star Trek fan, I’m excited to see where they go with this, the rumor mill is flying with stories of this being Quinto’s last one and Idris Elba playing the bad guy but I prefer to wait to see what happens.
"Suicide Squad" (August 5)
Last but certainly not least is the long anticipated “Suicide Squad” featuring a jam-packed list of today’s hottest names. The film follows this merry band of baddies as they are released from prison and recruited by a top-secret agency to carry out black ops missions with their unusual methods and in return they get out of jail. With a ton of well known characters like Harley Quinn, the Joker and Batman, this movie is sure to leave us haunted with rumors that even the cast was having difficulty with such tormented material! We’ll see names like Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Jared Leto and Viola Davis along with newer ones like Maggie Roberts playing Harley Quinn amazingly.
The hype for this movie has been months in the making with a new story about it featured in the entertainment websites at least every two weeks! The trailers released around the world have caused a worldwide buzz in anticipation for this bound to be hit. From the trailer, it looks like the casting is top notch and every cast member has truly become their character which always makes for the best films. While the trailer doesn’t give too much away, this movie’s supposed to contain some pretty disturbing stuff but that’s to be expected when watching so many bad guys in one movie right?
Well there you have it, the star studded list of summer blockbusters that you wont want to miss! So get out there and go see some movies, I’ll leave you with the summertime words of F. Scott Fitzgerald:
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
