From A Senior To A Freshman

We're no longer the top of the food chain.

From A Senior To A Freshman

Freshman round two. Here we go.

Entering high school as a freshman was pretty scary, but I think entering college as a freshman is ever scarier.

Senior year is everything I could have ever dreamed of. I cheered on my football team every Friday night; I made new friends and even lost friends; I fell in love; I played powder puff football; I dressed up as Mrs. Incredible during Homecoming week; I went crazy in the student section during basketball season; I participated in a senior prank; I graduated.

But what's next? Well, for me, college is next. Starting over as a freshman is overwhelming in itself. You barely know anyone, you have no clue where your classes are, you don't know where to park your car, you don't even know what books to purchase.

A mix of emotions surrounds me as I think of starting college in just a few short weeks. Scared. Excited. Happy. Anxious. Nervous. Sadness. Joy. I'm experiencing all of these things right now. This is such a time of transition and change in my life. Not everyone likes change, but change is necessary.

Change is necessary because it molds you into the person you will soon become.

Over the past few weeks, I've really tried to find myself and open my eyes to becoming a freshman again. It's a chance to be you. You're going off to college where you'll only know a few people. No one knows your past. No one knows your ACT score. It's time for a fresh start.

Entering high school is so different from entering college. However, I am so excited to embark on this new chapter in my life. College opens so many doors––high school has limited opportunities. Even though high school has provided me with some of the best memories and opportunities of my life, college is going to offer so much more. Remember what high school taught you and hold on to the memories; but don't let high school define you in college. It is time to branch out, find yourself and be the best that you can be.

I pray that I am no longer scared, nervous, or sad about starting college. I pray that I am filled with joy, peace and happiness as I start college. As you become a freshman again, let God lead the next four years of your life. His plan is so much greater than ours.

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11

So here's to being a freshman again!

P.S., If you can't find your classes or don't know which books to purchase, ask an upperclassman. They're not as intimidating as they seem!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
