From Millennial To Millennial

Let's embrace the "troubled" generation.

From Millennial To Millennial

If you're a millennial, chances are you've heard more than a couple times how privileged your generation has become. Sure, the 21st century may have phones that unlock themselves by recognizing your face, or sites that allow you to connect with others half-way across the world via the click of a button, but it's just a sign of our times (I love you, Harry Styles). Adults give us (also adults) tremendous amounts of flack for, well, living in our own generation. Don't get me wrong, my parents taught me to respect my elders as you should, and I can definitely appreciate a good war story, but times have changed since black and white TV, folks.

From millennial to millennial, lets talk about our generation.

It's 7:30am and you awake groaning from the horrendous noise blasting out of your iPhone speaker. It's the beginning of your day, and you hesitate to grab the leggings and oversized sweatshirt you laid out from the night before in an effort to get as much out of the last couple seconds of peace remaining in your morning. After a quick shower and light makeup, you're standing in line at the campus Starbucks to put a final "pep in your step" for the day ahead of you.

Sound familiar?

For our generation, something of that sort is a typical morning; give or take. Obviously, some boys may skip the makeup agenda for something more manly, like spending their morning playing Fortnite until they realize the time, and have to run across campus to be even decently late to make it seem as if they just walked a little too slow to meet the class' start time.

Regardless, these routines vary greatly than those in previous generations. I'm sure you've been trapped in conversations with older family members or respected adults who can't seem to tell you how easy your life is compared to the trials they endured - traveling both ways, uphill, and in the snow was probably a life changer.

But can we stop shaming our generation for simply indulging in what it has to offer?

I mean, Walkmans, 8-tracks, and the ever-so returning record player used to be "too much" for adults living in previous generations. Everyone who owned one of these products seemed to be listening too loud, or just blatantly not playing music that was labeled acceptable - all because it wasn't the normal genre of music the criticizing generation had been used to hearing.

If there's anything this century is known for, it's change. Acceptance is a word we seem to not be able to get enough of, because the world is not the same as it was a decade ago. In fact, astonishing changes have even been recorded in the past year - Donald Trump, am I right?

So if you belong to the "millennial" surname, let's stop hiding from EXACTLY who we are.

Let's be bold.

Go to a concert alone for that artist people would never get caught dead listening to in their headphones, drink a cup of coffee on a Tuesday afternoon in the most overrated coffee shop downtown, sign up for a sport that isn't football, write down your feelings about the boy who broke your heart and turn them into the most beautiful words your mind can muster in the damage - live for now.

Believe in yourself and who you have become in this generation.

We're already being talked about, so let's keep the conversation going.

The dynamics of any friend group are usually determined by the personalities which make it up. Chances are, while personalities may overlap, each person in your friend group holds his or her own place. It is the differences which bring the groups together and keep them functioning. No matter how functionally dysfunctional your friend group may be, if you're anything like me, you feel absolutely blessed to have found such a wonderful group of humans to call "your people." Here is what your friend group might look like if they were Disney princesses (and that wasn't just a thing you all pretended in your heads):

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.
