7 reasons why I love football Saturdays

When people ask me what my favorite season is, I don't respond with the typical winter, spring, summer or fall; instead, I reply with a more specific answer– football season. Being that I'm a girl, you were probably expecting a response more along the lines of: my favorite season is fall because it's sweater weather, I can go on cute cider mill dates (if I were ever asked on one... *cries*), the weather is perfect, and oh, don't forget my absolute favorite pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks #basic. (You read that in a high-pitched, nasally girl voice, didn't you?) Additionally, you were also probably thinking that my response had something to do with the targeted audience, boys. Sure, there might be some truth to that, but ultimately I just really love football!

Here are 7 reasons why I love football Saturdays:

1. The Rivalries

The rivalry between the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes is the greatest in college football history– The Game is undoubtedly one of the most exciting games of the year.

2. Tradition

In my opinion, nothing beats Florida State's tradition of Chief Osceola riding Renegade onto the field to plant a lit spear at the 50 yard line. Each school has their own traditions, which is what makes watching every game so entertaining.

3. ESPN College Game Day: Lee Corso Picks

ESPN College Game Day wouldn't be the same without Lee Corso wearing the headgear/mascot of the team he believes will win.

4. Tailgates

Regardless of the team, every school (some more than others) knows how to throw a good tailgate. Tailgates are great when there's good food, good company, and of course, football!

5. Unpredictability

Anything can happen while watching football. And like I always say, the game isn't over until the clock strikes zero. Miami pulled off an 8-Lateral touching and ended up beating Duke on this play. No game is the same which is what makes football so fun to watch!

6. The Crazy Coaches

I mean, how can you not find this both hilarious and entertaining?

7. The Stadium Atmosphere

There's nothing better than being at a game. Whether you're in the student section or in general seating, being present at a football game is an incredible experience. The emotions, the fun and the passion for both your school and its team is something you can't experience anywhere else.

I'm ready for football Saturdays, are you?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
