Dear Best-Guy-Friend,
I've always said I liked to be friends with boys more than girls because they have less drama, but I didn't know what that really meant until I met you. You hate drama. You live your life ignoring and hating any type of drama that you come across. Somehow you have managed to be the most drama-free person I have ever met. When people in your life cause drama, you do what you do best: tell them to go fly a kite.
Everyone always rolls their eyes at me when I say I like to hang with guys more than girls. That's apparently something slutty girls say. But you and I both know who I am, and we know I'm far from that. I'm not the type of girl to play hearts and mess around, and you're not the type of guy to put up with that anyway. What we have is a true friendship, and a life-long one at that. Besides, its 2016 and we're adults. Society needs to get over the fact that we're opposite genders. You're my best friend, and that's the end of it.
You have this type of personality where you just don't care. Not in a bad way, where you don't care about people, but in a way where you just don't let things affect you. A fight with your grandparents? It'll blow over. Bad day at work? Tomorrow is another day. If I change plans or ask you if we can do something else, I know you won't care. If I ask you to come with me to something last minute, you're always down. You never say no, you're up for an adventure, you're down for taking risks, and you don't really regret much. I love that about you and I crave to be that person.
Any time you come around, I know we're going to have a good time. And believe it or not, I brag about that when I invite you to things. "He's coming tonight, so you know this will be a night for the books!" We get lost in the dark, lost in the beat of music, or lost in the late nights. We lose track of time talking about what we would do if America got attacked by other countries and riding your quad all over town. We climb tree houses, we sit in hammocks and talk about nothing. We set off entire boxes of fireworks in your back yard, and you even got shot with a roman candle. You don't care what we do, and you have a way of making every adventure worthwhile.
You taught me to be free. When we met, I was going through a lot. But you taught me how to let go. You taught me how to move on. You taught me what it means to be a good friend. You showed me my rebellious side, and I can't seem to get enough of it. Somehow, you walked into my life when I needed you and for some reason, you haven't decided to leave.
You're a good friend. You're true, you're loyal, you don't lie, and you wouldn't do anything to wreck our friendship. Through thick and thin, I know you'll be there. Because to me, you're not just another boy. I don't have to impress you and there aren't expectations when it comes to you. You laugh at my stupid jokes, you get along with my boyfriend, and you don't mind whatever stupid question I'm about to ask you, because you don't really think I'm stupid anyway. You stick up for me, tell me to stop caring what other people think, and give me pep talks without having to even say anything.
When I met you, I was a different person. But thats okay, because you helped me grow into the person I am today. Some people make your laugh a little louder, your smile a little brighter, and your life a lot happier. For me, that was you. You've held me when I've cried, smiled with me through the happy times, and you've been there when I couldn't handle anyone else. You're not just my "best guy friend." Take they "guy" out of it, because we're past that. You're my best friend and I wouldn't be here today if I would have never met you.
I don't think I've said it before, but thank you. You're there when nobody else is. You saved me without even knowing you did it. We share our secrets and joke around, but when it comes down to it, you're a piece of me I don't want to lose. You'll be there until my last breath, and I know that there's nothing I could do to lose you.
Love,
Your Best Friend
