Thanksgiving will be here in a couple weeks, and many college students are beyond excited for the break that comes along with it. This holiday is one of the days where we can sit back at home and enjoy a delicious meal with our family. Then spend the entirety of the next day shopping for good deals and walk off all of the delicious, homemade food we ingested the day before. Or, you can roll out of bed around noon, and go grab some of those delicious leftovers you stole from your relatives house last night. Unfortunately for some people, college students especially, they do not often get the chance to go home to celebrate Thanksgiving. However, there was a term coined that fits perfectly for the holiday. The term 'Friendsgiving' came about in 2009. Defined, Friendsgiving is a holiday created by young people who are unable to travel to their own homes for Thanksgiving.
As college students, we create friendships that stretch all over the world. For many of our international friends, Thanksgiving is too short of a time for them to go home and spend it with their families. I love the idea of having a Friendsgiving, because it brings all of our friend groups together to celebrate a holiday that involves food and friendship. And no college student can turn down food; let alone delicious food served for Thanksgiving. We typically give thanks for everything good that has happened in our lives, so why not take the time to be thankful for the time spent with good company? Thanksgiving always comes at a good time, because many of us are probably tired of being around our friends for so long and are in need of a break. But, the moment we get home, we start to miss our friends and wish we were back together with them. Friendsgiving is a great way to remind us that though we get fed up with our friends, we should take the time to sit back and enjoy the time we have with them, and enjoy a delicious meal.
