9 Types Of Friends You'll Make In College

For many, this might be your very first year of college or it might be your last. The most amazing thing about the isolated world that we call college is that you're consistently meeting new people and making new friends—whether you like it or not. You'll obviously meet more than 9 types of people in college, but I can guarantee that you will make these types of friends within your 4-5 years of school.

The Awkward One

You might not remember how you met, but this friend is something special. This is the friend that turns everything into a very awkward situation. "It's not awkward unless you make it awkward" is not valid for this friend because to them, everything is awkward. You love spending time with them because their awkwardness takes the attention off of your own. They hold a special place in your heart no matter how awkward they may be in public.

The Frat Groupie

This friend will show up to three different fraternity parties in one night if they can. They'll beg to get invited to formals, semis and date nights and cry if they aren't. Always count on this friend to tell you about fraternity parties happening on campus—whether you asked or not. This friend may or may not be a part of Greek life, but that's not going to stop them from having a good time.

The Studious One

We all have that friend who is extremely into their studies and is seriously always studying. The best thing about this friend is that you'll always have a study buddy because they start studying three weeks before the next test and basically live in the library. Thankfully the library is closed on the weekend or else you'd probably never see them.

The Mom

Sometimes you fail to realize how amazing this friend is, so lets take a moment to acknowledge them. Now, being the mom does not mean boring by any means. This friend isn't a regular mom; she's a cool mom. This is the friend you're glad to have on the nights where you've had a little too much to drink and need someone to hold your hair back. Although she may come across as a mood killer, she always has your best interests at heart.

The Sorority Girl

This is the friend whose idea of dressing up is wearing leggings, boots, and a comfort colors t-shirt with her letters on it. This friend makes sure you know what sorority she's in no matter what. In her room you will find at least six picture frames and canvases with her sorority name on it. If that wasn't obvious enough you'll be sure to see the 20-25 t-shirts that she owns with her letters on it (even though she always wears the same 5-6). Ask yourself how many times have you heard this friend ask, "Are the t-shirts going to be comfort colors?"

The Homebody

This friend is notorious for bailing on a night out to binge-watch "Grey's Anatomy" in the comfort of their own bed. They're not completely opposed to partying, but they would much rather have a small get-together in a dorm/apartment over a night out. They'll be the first to convince you to have a lazy day and you love them for that.

The Party Animal

This friend is by far the most entertaining. Any night of the week you can find them drinking a handle, Snapchatting the aftermath and crying out their hangover the next day. They will invite you to all the parties and make you wonder how they find the time to study and where they get all of their energy. These people seriously never get old.

The Adventurist

Do you need someone to go on a random Waffle House trip, trip to the mall, or a 4 a.m. drive with no destination? This friend is the first one to jump on this opportunity for any last-minute plans. You love having them as your adventure buddy. It's nice to have a little spontaneity in your life to keep things interesting.

The College Best Friend

This friend could be your freshman roommate, a girl you met at orientation, a classmate or a random person you met in the dining hall. Nevertheless, you will find this person and you will be inseparable because college allows for it. They will be your person. There are always fun times to be had with this person whether planned, spontaneous or doing absolutely nothing.

Having all these different types of friends makes life way more exciting and broadens your horizon. College will bring forth some of the most unforgettable moments with people you never imagined being friends with. You'll grow to love and apprieciate these friends and you won't know what to do without them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
