The year that I was born the Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XXXI. I had Packers clothing before I was a week old, and I was a week old at my first Super Bowl Party. So I guess you could say that I bleed green. My whole family are Packers fans, and I'm pretty sure that I would be disowned by them if I was a fan of any other team. My dad jokingly asked me when I was five and said that my favorite color was purple, if i was a Vikings fan. Purple was no longer my favorite color, for the day.
In the midst of growing up a devout Packers fan, I befriended Vikings fans.
What the heck is wrong with me?! These people are fans of the enemy. I cannot be friends with them! That's against ALL rules, but nope. I am friends with them anyway.
Being friends with one of the biggest rivals has been interesting over the years. Of course, when the Packers won and the Vikings lost it was great fun to rub it in their faces, but when it was the other way around, it was not as fun to receive it right back. Yes, there were many times when we would not talk to one another during a game out of fear of saying something that we would regret later.
These wonderful people that I call my friends may not have very good football taste, but they mean the world to me. Who else would I have to make fun of when the Packers win? Who else would I have to share my abundant green and gold love with? So, shout-out to my misguided Vikings fans. Thank you for letting me love the Pack. I hope that one day your eyes will be opened and you will see the beauty of green.
This always "friendly" banter has helped our friendship grow over time. Football season really allows you to see a person's true colors. Thank you for still loving me through football season. I hope that I haven't hurt your feelings too much. Know that I appreciate you as a person, despite your choice of football teams.
I love you all dearly, and thank you for being a part of my life. Know of my prayers for you this season. And finally, GO PACK GO!
