What Our Friends Think We Do At Pepperdine

What exactly do our out of state friends think we do during a school day? I asked, they delivered.

7 a.m.: *peaceful alarm clock plays as I calmly sit up and stretch and smile at my perfect roommate*

7 a.m.: *rolls out of bed without snoozing alarm once* Ah morning. I love these days. The sun is shining, I have no life stressors, I have never felt pain.

7:15 a.m.: Since I go to Pepperdine, I wake up looking perfect everyday and have an unlimited closet. Let me just pick the most Kardashian-worthy outfit I own for school today.

7:30 a.m: I woke up so promptly for school this morning so I have time to go and grab a healthy breakfast from the 3 Michelin Star rated cafeteria. *grabs the bag I packed the night before, because I am just that good*

7:45 a.m.: *eats lobster for breakfast*

7:52 a.m.: *Shows up 8 minutes early to class to have leisurely chat with the professor just because I like them*

8-8:50 a.m.: I am so happy to be in this 8 a.m. Honestly it brightens my mornings so much. Let me make sure the professor knows that I am happy to be here by answering every question he asks as quickly and as long winded as possible.

9 a.m.: Because I go to Pepperdine I have way too much time on my hands. I only have one class a day because they would rather us get vitamin D than spend all of our time in class.

9:15 a.m.: Okay I finished all of my homework for the week. I'll just call up all of my friends who also conveniently aren't in class and we can all go to the beach.

10 a.m.: *loads up hippy van full of all of my best friends and begins filming video footage for the superiorly edited video I will make of our beach trip*

10:15 a.m. -4:30 p.m.: *spends literally all day at the beach, wears the right SPF of sunscreen and still gets a perfect tan, no one frowns the whole day*

5 p.m.: I have unlimited money so I'll just treat myself to a casual dinner at Nobu. Because that's what we do here.

5:45 p.m.: *eats a hundred dollars worth of sushi, feels no guilt*

6 p.m.: Well, it's been a great day, I better head over to see all the celebrities that just chill around here.

6:18 p.m.: *sees Taylor Swift and her entire squad, the Kardashians, Beyonce, and Bill Nye the Science Guy all casually sitting together, has a great conversation with them about their favorite beach spot, ends up getting invited to their next get together, politely declines because I "already have plans"*

8 p.m.: I wish I just didn't have so much to do all the time. Time just slips away, you know??

8:01 p.m.: *sulks at the fact that I can never do everything I want to in life*

8:20 p.m.: Ah it's getting late. I better start winding down.

8:25 p.m.: *gets in bed, doesn't bring phone because it's "bad for my health"*

8:32 p.m.: *reads a book for fun*

9 p.m.: Man, I am so exhausted. Such a good day.

In reality, we are just as busy as any other college, and although we love we love where we are, we worked hard to be here. And we are still working hard. But honestly, we do see celebs way more often than normal (shoutout to Harry Styles), we probably are more tan than you, and time really will slip away so we better enjoy this while we have it.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
