Everyone claims you meet you meet your life time friends in college, and to some extent I would agree, however, I can also say without a doubt that I met my people in high school as well. The problem isn't that your friends in high school aren't supposed to be around for your life, it's that we don't want to put in the time to maintain those relationships. When you graduate and disperse to different colleges it is so easy to simply let go. Things just get busy and we get so absorbed into this new adventure.
I find most of my value when I'm consistently investing in people I care about. I find value in the people I am around and knowing that they know I'm always there. Something I've realized over the last two semesters is how much harder this is the more time passes. Communication becomes less of a day to day interaction, and more of a big life event update. Despite that, they are still my people. And even from however far away I am, I would do anything in the world to make sure they are okay.
Life will always be hectic. It will always be more than we think we can handle. But being able to know that I have such deep roots and investments with some of the most loving people to walk this earth makes it all the more bearable. I could never truly express how much they have influenced who I am becoming.
