Yes, you are reading that right: the Friends gang may be there for us for a reunion after all!
"We're working on something," says former Friends star Jennifer Aniston, who to this day is still well remembered for portraying the once Central Perk waitress turned NYC fashionista Rachel Green; however, she made it clear that she and her other Friends costars have no idea what this something that they're "working on" is… She told us this very recently in an interview with Ellen – well actually, it was Charlie Puth's interview with Ellen, as J-An crashed the party, knowing full well how much of a "hardcore fan" Puth is of the show!
So, you're probably wondering, "Does that mean that Friends is finally getting a movie?" Well, Ellen asked her that very question, to which Aniston replied, rather jokingly than earnestly, "Huge, huge, huge movie," then switched gears by saying, "No. We don't know."
Sorry movie-goers, no Friends fans in the theater anytime soon…
Also, depending on your own views of reboots, revivals, and continuations of older material, which can make or break a series of any kind, this will not be a full-fletched reboot of the show. However, it would be interesting to see a 2010s take on the hit 90s slash early 2000s show that would allow the show's OG comedic masterminds David Crane and Marta Kauffman to come up with new ways to have the gang get caught up in their usual antics in the modern world and make us all laugh – fans of both the old and the new generations – and even create parallels between both sides of the same Friends coin. (And I do love my parallels…)
Now, if you have been keeping up with Aniston's Instagram, you may have come across a very recent photo of a get-together of sorts with her costars from the show, and it looks as though they are playing Twister on the floor…
And you know the gang and their Twister…
Could this have been the latest opportunity for the close-knit cast to come up with the idea for a revival? Aniston stated within the interview that no, that is not the case: "We did that because we miss each other and we all happened to be in the same part of the world… and maybe…"
Hmmm, interesting with that trail-off at the end there… (Rachel, just get off the plane already!)
At this point in the interview on Ellen – Puth's interview, remember – Puth chimes in with the thing that has been on everyone's minds: "Sounds to me like something's in the works."
And we could not agree more!
Personally, while a reboot or a revival would open up a whole channel of brand-new storylines for the beloved characters to jump into, it might be for the best if all that the fans are going to get after 15 years of waiting for something more to come from Friends is a reunion special, either on TV or available for streaming, the latter of which would very likely be on Netflix, where the OG series resides for the watching. (But hurry: while last year when Netflix announced that the show will be taken down but ultimately decided to leave it up after hearing various fans' complaints and threats to unsubscribe, this year Netflix is not fooling around and will get the last word, so get your fill of streaming it while you still can!)
So, fans old and new, and even those who want to be fans but still need to catch up – as is my case – be on the lookout for more news about this very possible reunion special in our midst! Trust me: Janice won't be the only one saying "OH. MY. GOD" when it does come to light…
