I Haven't Seen My Best Friends In Two Months And We Are Still As Strong As Ever

In your first year of college you meet people who will change your life forever; It truly is the best change anyone can make. You leave the people who you have know practically your whole life and are able to start fresh, be the person you always wanted to be. Your college year will seem like a marathon but by the end, it will only feel like it was a sprint because of how fast it actually goes by.

You expect a summer with your new friends but it isn't reality. You move out and go home, a place that will take some getting used to even if you lived there for your whole life. Your best friends now live over an hour away and life is getting hectic. Those everyday phone calls and constant text messages will soon fade into an occasional message or two. You have a job and they have a job so, those summer plans you were hoping to have with them is probably just unfulfilled dreams of plans.

Though this isn't a bad thing, don't think that your friendship is going downhill or they have somehow forgotten you over these past two months. That is not the case. Though the times are busy and you spend most of your time missing them, they are missing you too! Those short conversations will become the highlight of your day or possibly week because you love talking to them even if it is for merely two and a half minutes.

You need to have faith in your friends and know that in a short month you all will be reunited again. You will spend twice as much time together as you did last year because you know how awful it is being apart. Movie nights will be a must and morning coffees will mean so much more. I miss my friends like crazy but I cannot let that hold me back from enjoying my summer. They will always be in my heart and on my mind, it is time for me to relax and know that somewhere out there they are thinking of me too.

So yes, These last two months without my best friends in the whole world have driven me bonkers and probably will until I finally get to see them again but I know our friendship is stronger than the distance. I get a chance to hang out with some awesome people who I grew up with for the next month and I couldn't be happier. I know my friends from college will be doing the same and I will try not to get completely jealous of all the photos they take with them.

So cheers, to summer, to friendships, and to two minute phone calls. My love and faith grow stronger with everyday that comes. One more month, I will be home to you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
