Sorry, 'Friends' Isn't Worth $100 Million

I don't think I've ever seen this much money go to this big of a waste.

Sorry, 'Friends' Isn't Worth $100 Million

When you think of a good sitcom, what show comes to your mind? Is it "The Office?" Is it "Parks and Recreation?" Are you one of those people who somehow finds humor in "Seinfeld?" Or are you that boring of a person that you think "Friends" is a good show?

I've never liked the show. It isn't good, and anyone who says otherwise needs to find something better to do than watch this watered down series. On my list of shows I can't stand, "Friends" is at the top, right where it's been for nearly ten years of my life.

I know, it probably doesn't make sense that I'm hating on this terrible show for no reason. So, let me start with my first of many:

"Friends" isn't funny because of Ross Geller.

He's an awful character and complains about anything that inconveniences him in any way. Not to say he's the only reason the show isn't good. The jokes are repetitive and I can't imagine why anyone would watch this series on Netflix more than once, especially when whole box sets of DVDs exist for that specific reason.

Don't worry, I'm not one of those people who says something like that and then continues watching "The Office" for the tenth time. I've seen it, checked it off my list, and I'm constantly looking for new things to watch, which brings me to my next point:

Netflix had so many great original shows, which they had to cancel to find the $100 million in their budget to keep Friends in their lineup.

The streaming company got rid of so many fresh ideas and concepts so people could keep watching the same six characters getting into the same shenanigans they've been involved in since the late 90s.

Now that I think about it, my hatred for this show could be stemming from my extant frustration of "How I Met Your Mother" being removed. A great show with an unfortunate ending, HIMYM met the end of it's run too soon. It was much better than "Friends" will ever be, and though it's been gone for close to a year, I still miss the show dearly.

My point is that the $100 million spent to keep Friends around could've been used to create and produce a new fan favorite show, but we'll unfortunately never know what could've been done. Netflix has wasted a butt ton of money on a show that was worth nothing even close to that amount, and I'm gonna be pretty upset about it for a while.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
