This past week I auditioned for Shrek the Musical that a military theater group is putting on and I was offered the role of Fiona! I of course accepted and to celebrate here is a Shrek themed article on the types of friends everybody has or has had in the past.

1. The Chatty Kathy

You know the kind. You love them but sometimes they don't know when to stop talking! They find silence awkward and talk to fill the emptiness. If you and your friend are both Chatty Kathys then it can work out nicely.

2. The Whiner

This is the guy who always has something to complain about. On the flip side, these people often have some pretty great stories and are animated story tellers. They can also be good at relating to people. Sometimes it's really great to have a friend you can rant with.

3. The Oh-So-Humble Egomaniac

Confidence is great and often an attractive trait. Over-confidence, however, is not. Cockiness, topped off with a good-sized helping of false humility, is quite common in egomaniacs. The best thing to do is give them a pat on the head and say, "You know what? You're totally right" and move on.

4. The Morning Person

These are the people who can be found singing and skipping and making pancakes at 6 in the morning. They're often very productive people but are also known for driving people crazy with their early morning cheerfulness.

5. The Night Owl

These people can stay up all night talking, studying, partying, or star gazing. They may not want to go hiking with you the next morning but they're more than willing to stay up with you for hours into the night when you really need somebody to talk to.

6. The Small and Sassy

These people are often adorable, but don't call them that! They make up for their lack of height with their sassy attitude! They are outspoken and won't hesitate to tell you what's what! These friends are great to have around for their bravery and their loyalty.

7. The Ninja

We all have that friend who scales mountains, can do a backflip on request, has a black belt in karate, runs marathons, plays any and every sport you can think of and/or is all around athletic and active. You secretly believe they can do anything.

8. The Charmer

They can smooth talk their way into and out of any situation. Charmers are likeable and confident and make friends wherever they go, which is why almost everybody has one as a friend.

9. The Theatre Freak

The actor or broadway buff or performer or even those people who are presentational in everything they do. These are the theatre freaks. Being a theater freak myself, I know many of these people and they can be anything from hilarious to quirky to downright strange. But they are always fun to have around and make life interesting.

10. The Beefcake

Everybody's got a large friend. If you don't then you should get one because they are awesome. I'm not talking about those who hate their bodies and are constantly shaming themselves. I'm talking about those who don't ever let their weight get in the way. Who own their size because they know it's part of what makes them absolutely fantastic. You need these people in your life.

We have many types of friends and that's what great about friends; they're all different and each brings something different to the table. I hope you enjoyed my Shrek-themed listicle! Which friend are you?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
