Dear Old Friend That Slipped Away, Despite us going our separate ways, I truly hope you are doing well

A letter dedicated to those who have drifted apart from friends after graduation.

Dear Old Friend That Slipped Away, Despite us going our separate ways, I truly hope you are doing well

Even I can admit our friendship has been nothing short of a wild, far from perfect ride filled with twists and turns. Together we've had good and bad times, we've shared plenty of laughs and even tears.

But friendships don't always last a lifetime.

Despite bracelets saying it would be forever, and plans of a future where we would remain only the best, things didn't go as planned.

Sometimes what was once was so great can fizzle out. People's feelings change and the people themselves change. We move onto new chapters and new people, both of which come with growing up and moving on.

I'm not a bad person for letting what we once had slowly unraveled. And neither are you.

For us, high school was simply a game of who had the better reputation. For me, I didn't become friends with people based off of common interest. I became friends with people in high school just to have someone to sit with at lunch and to hang out with on the weekends.

Sometimes those friendships stick and sometimes they don't.

The time came to show that our bond wasn't one of the ones that lasted. As our high school years came to an end and new experiences presented themselves, we inevitably drifted apart. I liked talking about things you hated, and it felt like with each passing second we had less and fewer reasons to remain as close as we once were.

We haven't talked to each other in a while and I am sorry for the way things ended. I think in a way, we both saw it coming.

I really do care about you, and despite us going our separate ways, I truly hope you are doing well.

At the end of the day, I don't resent us for growing away, and I hope you are happy and successful, and that everything you wished for out of life comes true. I hope you don't resent me. Just because things aren't the same anymore doesn't mean we still can't be friends that grab an occasional tea on a Sunday afternoon.

I hate to admit that what happened between us is just part of life. And at the end of the day, while life keeps moving forward and we go our separate ways, I can't wait to see everything you accomplish. The memories we made together will forever remain with me, and that's what's most important.

Sincerely,
An old pal

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
