A Friendly Thank You

A whole-hearted thank you to these types of friends.

A Friendly Thank You
Flash Alexander

Giving thanks is not something we do often enough. We just forget day-to-day between appointments, meetings, classes and frantically trying to cross things off our to-do lists. But I think it’s time to recognize the people who get us through the rough patches in life, our friends. Family too, but friends are always our home away from home. So without further ado, a whole-hearted thank you to these friends.

To the sister friend… thanks sis for being my first best friend. You will never be replaced and are always loved. Nothing beats a great conversation with your sister or a shopping spree or a movie night. Best friends forever!

To the mom friend… thanks for being so considerate. It’s not your job, but if it was you would rock people’s socks. And you already do, between listening to our problems, reminding us to take care of ourselves, and always carrying a multitude of handy items like Band-Aids and bobby pins.

To the cheerleader friend… thanks for rooting for me. You never hesitate to give me the motivation I need to continue on. Your text messages should be displayed in a museum because they’re memorable, funny, and never fail to make me smile. I can’t wait to be cheering for you in the future too.

To the ride or die friend… thanks for being an awesome adventure buddy. Life can be a little scary sometimes, so I love knowing that you’re by my side. After all, life’s greatest adventures should never be done alone.

To the family friend… thanks for the amazing memories. I may not see you all the time, but I hope you know how much our friendship means to me. I honestly can’t remember when we met, which is exactly all the more reason to call you “cousin.” Welcome to the family!

To the long-distance friend… thanks for always giving me someone to look forward to seeing. We may have to travel some distance, but you’re the best company. Thanks for the instant messages, emails, and snail mail that we share. Your friendship is too good to lose.

To the work friend... thanks for suffering with me. Work is great for teaching responsibility and all, but it can get pretty boring without you. I have to thank you for all the goofy conversations and all the support you provide to get through the work day.

To the school friend… thanks for your homework help and friendship. I know we don’t always get to hang out after school, however, that doesn’t make our friendship any less. The true meaning of solidarity is when we both haven’t started our assignment.

To the new friend… thanks for sticking with me. We may just be getting to know each other, but it’s pretty clear we’re a good match. Hanging with you has been awesome and getting to know you more will be even better.

Basically, thank you, friends, for being loving, supportive, funny, adventurous, and being one of the best parts of my life. My life is better for it and I hope yours is too.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
