News flash: school is back in session. That means late nights of studying, long hours in class, commuting back and forth to campus, but above all, it's likely you're going to stress over a least a class or two. And college grades are a lot more important than high school ones. You have to maintain a certain GPA to keep scholarships or stay in a sorority or fraternity, and above all, you need the grades to get your degree so one day you can get a job.
There's a vicious cycle that comes with school and all of the expectations that are shoved down your throat as a college student. There are so many due dates and tests and homework that has to be turned in on the computer by a certain time. There are grade deductions and no extra credit and professors that don't round your grade. But you're constantly expected to do good in school, make enough money to pay for it, socialize and be involved with campus life, have down time, exercise, sleep, eat right; eventually it all becomes too much and it's not wonder college students stress themselves out or just give up.
So if you're in school and you feel completely lost and stressed out, like you don't know what you're doing or you feel like you don't belong because it's too hard. Don't. Give. Up.
College is only four years of your life, at minimum anyways. But four years of hard work that will one day pay off. It's a lot of work and it's demanding, but in the end it's worth it. And chances are you're not the only one.
Just because you were top of your class in high school doesn't mean you're not going to struggle in your calculus class. Just because you failed a test doesn't mean you're an idiot or stupid.
College is hard. No one said it would be easy and I think people often forget that. And it can often leave you feeling worthless and alone.
I remember I went into a class this year worried about struggling in it, then before class started and I heard people talking about how worried they were about the class too. Then I thought to myself, "just because I'm having trouble or worried doesn't mean I'm the only one. I'm not the only one freaking out. I have other people in here too just like me that are having difficulties. I'm not alone after all."
College is about learning and expanding your interests and your knowledge. It's about finding out the type of person that you are. It's about learning your study habits and who your friends are going to be for the next ten, twenty, forty years. It's about having fun, but working hard while doing it.
You really can do anything if you put your mind to it. And if that's studying all through the night to ace a test you never thought possible, then so be it. But if you apply yourself and push toward your goals, you can do anything. And remember that you're not alone.
