On November 8th, people across America will go to their local polling places and make the big decision-who should be the next President of The United States of America. This Election Day is focused around Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, as well as Jill Stein and Gary Johnson. However, with such a focus this year on the Presidential election, a lot of people often overlook the other candidates for other roles that they will be voting for on Election Day.
When you receive your ballot, whether on paper or computer, one of the first sections will most likely be for the candidates for President. But after that, there will be 3 or 4 more pages of candidates for other local positions. And these local positions are a lot more important than most people realize.
The officials in office in your local city/town/area will most likely more directly affect you than the President will. Of course, that is hard to imagine, but it is true. the President is not responsible for our communities-our local officials are.The officials in our city and state directly handle schooling, transportation, infrastructure, and many more issues-issues that the President has basically no say in.
Most people randomly vote for any name in the local elections, with no research. In doing this, we are basically giving the governmental seats and power to people who could be more hurtful than helpful to our communities.
With that being said, remember to do some research on your local candidates before you vote on November 8th! Your local officials are very important to your community, and you want to make sure that you can vote for the best possible candidate!
