They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, but in my experiences time wears friendships thin. Months at a time I go without seeing you, and yet in the span of an hour you make me feel as though you've been there all along.
To the Friend that Never Left. The one that was okay with waiting, and that never let time or distance tatter our memories. Thank You.
To the Friend that can pick up right where we left off in the blink of an eye; it's not easy. Schedules, routines, the daily ins-and-outs of life have wedged a wall between us. They prompt us to make excuses and forget to reach out. We grow careless and unthoughtful because we are human. But you are timeless. Infinite.
Your ability to seamlessly weave your way into my life in no way justifies my actions. We should all take time to reach out to the people we care about. Not soon. Not later. Now. But we should also appreciate those that respect our time and space. Those that understand that our silence does not stem from resent, but rather life. And that within time we will circle right back to where we were before.
These long, summer days have made it easier to reach out. Send a text. Arrange plans. Remind them that you're here and that you care. But as summer fades to fall I know that our friendship can withstand missed calls and failed plans. And for that, I am grateful.
