Why You Should Take A Friend To Prom
Today Show

Whether you are a junior or a senior, prom is a big deal. And if you’re not in a relationship, it's hard to decide what to do about a date- do you go single, with friends as a group, with a friend as a date, or ask a cutie? I went to prom with a friend- and here is why I will always look back on my prom night as one of the best nights ever.

My story

I went with my best guy friend, Jack. We have been friends since we were little kids, and have been over each other’s houses a million times. We weren’t good friends 6-10th grade, but in 11th we became friends again and it was like all of the years apart hadn’t happened. We decided to go together a few weeks before, and I can say that I had the best time at prom; better than what I ever could have imagined. We did pictures at two houses, his guy friend’s and my girl friend’s, and went to prom in his car. We balanced out hanging out with both sides of our friends, took pictures with many people, danced to every song, and had the best time. Plus, we are both tall so the pictures turned out great.

It’s not awkward

When you go with a cutie, it can be awkward; whose friends do you sit with, do you dance to the slow songs, where do you take pictures? Plus, at the end of the night, you may or may not get a kiss. But with a friend-date, it's not awkward. You have similar friends, so you can make a mutual decision, you can dance to the slow songs without it being anything serious, and you can take pictures with both of your own friends. At the end of the night, there is no awkward moment, just a friendly goodbye.

Your parents will be happy

Odds are, if they are your friend, your parents know them. They may even have known for a long time, or just in high school. Either way, your parents will be thrilled to have you go with someone they know. Plus, the parents probably know each other, so pictures will not be awkward for them and they will have fun as well.

No awkwardness on dating

Because you're friends, you will not feel obligated to date them, kiss them, or do anything else. If you go with a person you’re interested in, things get more complicated.

Planning is easy

You will likely have similar friends, so you will not need to worry about where to take pictures, whose house to meet at, or whose friends to go with. It’s all very relaxed and fun, and makes the whole night more enjoyable.

Your friends will feel comfortable

When you take a date, it may be a little bit awkward. The dates may or may not know each other, and the person may not even be from you school. However, with a friend, your other friends will likely know them and feel comfortable around them. There will be no jealousy over who took the cuter boy, or whose date is getting kissed. It'll just be a fun night with your friends.

You will have a great time

You dance the night away, eat good food, and hang out with a close friend. Plus, you can hang out with both of your friends without feeling attached to the other. Have a great time, young ones!

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
