First year college spring break … we’ve heard about it, we’ve dreamed about it. And now it’s finally happening. Spring break is right around the corner and for the freshmen here at Purdue, anticipation is everywhere. For most of us freshmen, we will all be heading south on March 14th to Panama City Beach, Florida. So what should we expect? What is actually true about what we hear happens in PCB?

We’ve heard a lot of rumors about what happens in Panama City Beach, but what's legit and what's BS? Well for one, there are always different opinions about the best place to stay. Don’t let anyone tell you differently, The Holiday Inn is the best place to stay in PCB. It’s heavily populated, and it’s in an area where all of the spring break activities occur, so this is where you want to be. But no matter where you are staying, one thing is true for every location, hotels and resorts are incredibly strict about outsiders who are not staying at that hotel. If you don’t have a wristband or anything identifying that you are staying in that specific hotel, you’ll get the boot. Be careful about where you’re hanging out at hotels!

Along with all of the rumors we here about PCB that end up being true, there is a lot of information floating around the freshman community that many think is true, but is not. For instance, when you hear that families aren’t in PCB, that’s a lie. There are a lot more families with children in PCB than anyone would expect to see. It doesn’t make sense for a family to willingly vacation there, but hey, whatever you floats your boat.

Word is out that transportation in PCB isn't issue, that you can walk everywhere, and worrying about rides is useless. This is a lie. If you want to be that brave soul to try to walk from place to place, say goodbye to your feet, because they’ll fall off. And finally, freshmen constantly hear how grimy and disgusting PCB is. This is true sometimes … but depending on where you choose to spend your time or where you wonder off to can actually be a beautiful sight.

One thing that I am sure everyone has heard is how PCB is nothing but a congregation of Greeks. Greek life thrives at different schools nationwide and when everyone travels to the same place on the same week, you're bound to meet some of your sisters and brothers from other schools too!

All in all, freshman year spring break is one of those weeks that will go down in history. Hanging out on the beach for a week with some of your best friends, finally away from the stress and exhaustion school has to offer is what we wait for as soon as spring semester begins. We only have a little bit longer, Boilermakers. Hang in there and get ready for one of the best weeks of the year.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
