There's that word again that we all stress about. College. Its something we all dread, but there is something you can do to better prepare yourself.
There are a variety of things that you can jump into that will build your college resume up to help with the job and scholarship hunt. Internships, community service, and other programs will boost your resume and help you be more competitive.
There are always internships available in every field. Some are harder to get than others and likewise, some look better than others as well. If you can, get a paid internship. There are plenty of paid internships out there and having an internship is like having another job. It will give you real world experience and show employers that you can work in that field.
Community service is another good way to help. Many scholarships or other programs want to know how many hours of community service you have completed and what your role was. Besides helping you with scholarships, community service can really help those in need so this is something everyone should do anyway.
One of the biggest programs I know of that will boost your resume is study abroad. Employers notice this on your resume and it does give you an edge. I was sitting in class one day when someone came to talk to us about study abroad. One of the women who came to speak had graduated from MTSU and studied abroad herself. She told us a story that when she landed an interview with an employer, he had told her that one of the only reasons she had got the interview over the other candidates was study abroad.
I would recommend that everyone start building their resumes in high school. If you don't build it up then you will have no competitive edge. And it will be difficult to get more scholarships or to get a job after you graduate. So my advice to you is get out there and start looking!
