50 Misconceptions All Incoming College Freshmen Have

Going into college, I had no idea what to expect. Everything that I thought I knew was proven wrong and it ended up being the best, craziest, most unpredictable year ever.

1. Dorm life is like a party all the time.

2. Fitting all my stuff into my room will be easy.

3. If anything, I UNDERpacked!

4. All you can eat dining hall meals- awesome!

5. I'll definitely wear makeup every day.

6. I'll definitely dress up every day.

7. My fake ID will for sure pass as real.

8. I'm gonna get all my professors in lectures to know exactly who I am.

9. My roommate and I are gonna be besties!

10. I can't wait to meet the love of my life at a frat party.

11. Early morning classes will be a great start to my day.

12. I'm gonna workout every morning before class.

13. Sharing bathrooms can't be that bad.

14. I'll never let my laundry get too out of hand.

15. Only 2 classes a day? This is gonna be easy!

16. I probably won't drink or party that much.

17. My room will always be neat and tidy.

18. College means no drama because everyone is mature and not petty like in high school.

19. I'm gonna have so much free time, I should probably get a job.

20. I want to be involved with as many clubs on campus as possible- the busier the better!

21. Being away from my family will be a walk in the park.

22. I'm going to be so organized!

23. I'll facetime my high school friends every day to keep in touch.

24. I'll rarely ask my parents for money.

25. There's no way I'll gain weight.

26. I'm 100% set on my major, there's no way I'll ever want to change it

27. I took math in high school so now I won't have to do any of it in college.

28. At least 8 hours of sleep every single night!

29. I'm only ever gonna use my meal plan, I'll rarely eat out.

30. College is where you find lifelong friends within the first week!

31. College will be too fun to ever feel stressed.

32. FREEDOM! I'm never gonna need my parents for anything!

33. Lecture classes mean I don't have to go right?

34. I'm going to work really hard so that I never fall behind on the readings.

35. I'm going to eat healthy!

36. College boys want relationships.

37. There will be Spark Notes for all the books so I probably won't have to ever really read.

38. I can't see myself getting into all that school spirit stuff.

39. There will be avocados in the dining halls. (Heads up- there probably won't be).

40. My advisor will do all my schedule work for me.

41. Rate My Professor can't be that accurate.

42. I'm never gonna get sick, my immune system is great!

43. I'll only spend money on the necessities.

44. I'm only bringing cute clothes because that's all I'll wear.

45. I don't go out on school nights.

46. I'm in college now. I am a mature adult.

47. My focus will be unbreakable.

48. I've always been a good student so getting a 4.0 should be easy.

49. August to May is such a long time!

50. It sucks being a freshman.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
