Goodbye Freshman Year

"We did it!"

Goodbye Freshman Year
Samantha Bauer

The last weekend before finals has ended, and now we all have one week until our first year at college has come to a close. The memories I've made with everyone are unforgettable.

Honestly, my first year as a college student ending is so bittersweet. I can't wait for summer and I can't wait for school work to end. However, I don't want to leave everyone for the summer. It just means a sad 4 months apart from the people I've lived with since September.

It's heartbreaking to see everyone packing up their rooms, taking down pictures; Christmas lights; and posters, and disappearing TVs. It's like we never lived there and someone new may be coming in and taking my room while I move into another room. Technically, it's not even MY room, but it's been my home and I find so much comfort in the room I've lived in.

My advice to all the incoming freshmen: enjoy your summer and make the most of it, but when you come to college make sure you bond with the people on your floor. My best friends live right down the hall and I wouldn't trade our tears or laughs for anything in the world. One day, someone almost cried because the thought of the limited amount of days we have together hurt so badly.

Please make the most of your freshman year. I've slowly discovered who I am with the help of those I've been with. It's sad to see everyone go but I know bigger and better things are coming our way in the next 3 years. Don't be afraid to branch out and join a club or talk to someone new. You never know who your next best friend might be.

And lastly, I promise you'll be okay. College was scary but the help of others was the best thing to calm the fear. Some say high school is the best 4 years of your life, but college definitely truimphs that.

It's hard to say goodbye for the summer, but I know we'll always have each other. Meyran 2nd Floor forever.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
