Freshman's First Week at St. Ed's

My eventful (but fun) first week of my freshman year of college!

I can't say that I had a crazy first-day-of-class experience since I didn't. Though I can say that move in weekend and everything that followed was both chaotic and fun, all at once.

FRIDAY:

Move in day! I left home (San Antonio) at 6:00 or 7:00 am, then arrived in Austin at 9:00 and indulged in some good ol' Waffle House. After that, it was time to get serious. Time to unload and decorate my room! Literally everybody and their mothers were scrambling about to use blue bins and dollies to transport boxes and furniture; it was a mess, but it was fun regardless.

The Block Party was super fun too. Though I didn't dance very much, it was entertaining to watch others, especially when one girl danced for about 10 songs straight without ever slowing down— pretty impressive if you ask me. The night ended with a singalong to Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing'. Classic.

SATURDAY:

ANCHORS! If you didn't sign up for Anchors... man, you missed out. It was like Orientation 2.0, but way better! It was so fun to learn more about the campus as well as show off your pride and spirit.

The Welcome Barbecue was amazing. Everything was delicious.

SUNDAY:

Mass of Welcome, Medallion Ceremony, and the Legacy Walk!

These were the final three big Welcome Day events, and they were amazing. My family parted soon after Mass, and before the Medallion Ceremony I took a stroll around campus, snapping pictures of the beauty St. Ed's campus has to offer.

MONDAY:

First day of class! It was too early, and everybody was too tired- students and professors alike. There were a lot of instances where people silently got up during class and walked out, realizing they weren't where they were supposed to be (oops!). One of my professors wasn't ready for the first day either, accidentally writing on a dry erase board with a Crayola marker (uh oh!).

TUESDAY:

Second first day! It rained during the nighttime, so everything was wet, especially my bike. Which I "attempted" to ride to class. Let's just say that I ended up walking to class with an awkward stain on my jeans.

WEDNESDAY:

Finally! The mid-point of the week! Y'all. College was fun, and it's been real... but I'm so done. I'm tired (I'm totally kidding, I love it here).

Wednesday was my personal laundry day... which wasn't very fun... I spent two hours sitting in a small kitchenette/laundry room hybrid, (im)patiently waiting for my clothes to finish washing, struggling to use the machines. My RA stopped by at one point and said I picked a good day to wash, though I was skeptical.

THURSDAY:

Almost there... Almost Friday... Just one more day to go!

FRIDAY:

Only one class... you know it's lit.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
